And once again, I find it amazing that no one on this forum seems to care about this car.

Are there NO performance enthusiasts here? No Z-car owners/former owners, or Mustangs, or Camaro fans? Perhaps there are and that's why no one is commenting.

Hyundai's got a winner here, just wait and see...

I'm sure there are folks but they're off on other boards. Once the coupe comes out I'm sure this board will pull lots of folks off the Tib board, and of course, new Gen Coupe owners will come in.

I'm with Lilbean on this one and I think this is going to be a huge hit for Hyundai. Pricing is very competitive and not much higher than the Tib. Look how much more you're getting.

Yah I don't know why people are not as excited as I am. I totally can not wait to see what that turbo motor can do.

I agree wholeheartedly that Hyundai has a winner with the Genesis coupe. It's priced at the perfect point (in either engine variant) to compete with cars such as the Mustang, Challenger and forthcoming Camaro. Not to mention it would be a great (and cheaper) alternative to the Infiniti G37 coupe, which to me it resembles greatly. I've been following this car for a long time and I can tell you I'm excited about it and can't wait for it to hit the showroom soon. I've seen some pics of the Coupe customized and they are simply phenomenal, breathtaking really. You guys should really do yourselves a favor and look them up they are absolutely beautiful. Now people who know me well will tell you I'm a Mustang man through and through...always have been and always will be, but more than a Mustang enthusiast, I'm a car enthusiast as well and if there was one car that could make me trade in my pride & joy Mustang it would be the Genesis Coupe (Sonata, not an option owe too much money, lol).

Personally for me, I say line up a Genesis Coupe 2.0T Track 5 speed auto, if I were to use it as a daily driver (trading in the Sonata) or a Genesis 3.8L v6 Grand Touring 6 speed manual if I were to do the unthinkable and trade in the Mustang. I can't wait to go for a test drive when these hit the dealerships here.

Some pics for your enjoyment :)

I'm excited, and what is the expected timing of sales beginning in Canada? I have to see what the headroom is like and space/visibility in general. The 2.0T is appealing however the only way to get LSD is with the GT package. So, if someone doesn't want to go more radical than 18" wheels (because of our roads), they can't get LSD and a 2.0T. Also, 2.0T stock power and torque to weight is a little on the weak side even for only day to day street use.

THE big question for me is how and where to get the 2.0T chipped. The goal here doesn't necessarily have to be exceeding the V6's power. I'd guess 275 HP and torque would be OK (and needed) for 3,400+ lbs., but rather to get good performance for less money than the V6. Also there is confusion about Hyundai. On one hand they have been embracing aftermarket tuners to build the image, vs. on the other hand, what their stand will be on warranty issues if the car is chipped (probably decline). Or will Hyundai offer their own chip on a warrantied aftermarket basis? I'm not about to gamble on a brand new car.

the turbo engine is very similiar to the 4B11 found in the mitsubishi evolution and lancer ralliart. Just detuned. I am not sure if the internals are exactly the same but if they are this engine can be tuned to over 300hp very easily. All the aftermarket already exists. HKS and other tuners will have go fast mods for this car right at launch if not right quick. The only reason the car is detuned so much is if it wasn't it would beat up on their high end v6 models all day. Intake, full Exhaust, and a tune on the dyno with an EMS and this car will be way faster than a v6 model.

Sooooo..... the big bad admin who thinks this car looks like a fat chick's face is now drooling over them.

I saw my first one in person yesterday and again today and I like it WAY better in person. For whatever reason, the advertising pics did NOTHING for me, but I guess that happens.

It's a black V6 manual and I HATE hyundai Canada right now.
Yall Americans get a base model V6 for $25,000.
Our base model V6 is equivalent to your premium, full of options and starting at $32,995.
Completely uncool hyundai, uncool. If I could get a base model V6 for $27,000 or there abouts, I'd be cleaning the sonata for trade in right now.

Guess I'll have to play wait and see, and hopefully the local dealers will get a 2.0T in soon.

Hyundai dealers are going to have to learn to be modification-friendly. Hyundai is practically encouraging tuning of the Gen Coupe.

If the dealership cannot PROVE that said modification has caused failure of said factory part, then they have to cover the repair under warranty. It's Federal Law.

Intake, Exhaust, a good tune... superficial stuff like that should be ok. Now if you throw a bigger turbo on the 2.0 and blow the motor, then you're just out of luck. Hyundai has already stated that it can handle no more than 29 pounds of boost, but that doesn't mean they won't hand you the bill if you increase the boost and blow the motor.

Personally, I'm getting the 3.8 Track w/ 6 spd manual in either Mirabeau Blue or Nordschleife Gray, but I'm waiting until the summer. I won't touch it for a while, I want to see what good aftermarket products will come out in the US first.

About 6 months and counting... bye bye Accent.

Yah and since my Sonata is worth way less than I owe I will be waiting awhile to buy a new Coupe. I am thinking used 2.0 Track or R-spec out of the states in a year or two. The hype will be gone and the resale will drop alot.

I thought the same, but I'm not even that far upside down. Similar Sonatas to mine are going for $13,000-18,000 in the Edmonton area, and last time I checked, I owed $17,000ish.

I think I'll only get about $11,000 for trade-in, but if I do a private sale I might be in luck.

So the car is available for sale in Canada now?

Ray
Of the 4 dealers in my area, 3 have Genesis coupes on display and are willing to test drive/sell them with a deposit and approved credit check. I haven't actually bought one (obviously :)) but I would assume if you walked in and waved a handful of cash in their face, you could quite conceivably drive away in a shiny new silver or black V6 coupe.
No turbo 4s on the lots yet, none that I could see in the receiving yards and no word on quite when they will be here but "around the end of the month" seems to be the consensus.

The dealership where my dad works got a 3.8 Grand Touring model in stock Monday. It was a red one, with the paddle shifters and sitting on their outdoor showroom. I was off from work early today so I stopped by to see if I could test drive it. I was certain they were going to say no, but to my surprise the saleswoman (who knows my dad and I) handed me the keys and let me take it for a cruise (with her in the car of course). As a matter of fact I was the first customer to even get behind the wheel of that car (according to people there at the dealership...they got word I was coming, lol). Man for that 25 minutes I was behind the wheel of that Coupe, it was such an amazing ride. Probably the best ride in any car I've ever had. The fun factor that v6 had was way better than that in my v6 Mustang and boy is it quick. I took it on the interstate to really open it up and I was doing 100 easy without even realizing it and the exhaust is just groovy. Now I know I have got to get me one of these one day... it's just a matter of a 3.8L or 2.0T. I just can't wait until they get some turbo models in stock to see if the lesser-powered Genesis model will have the same feel and fun factor as it's 3.8L big brother.

Somehow is nice to hear something like that form a Mustang owner... The mustang is an icon, a car that everybody wants to see when it passed by, now Hyundai is getting in the road. Beware!

Oh I agree the Mustang is an icon and I will always have Pony blood running through my veins, but anyone who dismisses this car as nothing but a novelty act from Hyundai are really setting themselves up for a rude awakening. This car is the real deal and while I can't speak of the other cars it's suppose to rival against I can safely say that the 3.8L v6 is leagues faster than the truck based 4.0L v6 engine in the Mustang and wouldn't surprise me if it can outrun the Mustang GT with or without the Ford factory CAI (as what comes with the 2010 model refresh). I'm also expecting the 2.0T 210 HP Genesis to even be faster than my Mustang with the same horsepower ratings. Ford really needs to consider bringing that ECOboost v6 engine to the Mustang and soon, if they don't, then it may be lean times for the Mustang especially with other v6 and 4 cylinder cars that it competes against bringing more power and better performance. Like I said earlier in my previous post, anything thoughts about me being disappointed by the Genesis have been completely erased with that one test drive. The only thing that remains for me is the 2.0T model, my inquiring mind has got to know!
