My manual calls for 75W/85 GL 4
I am wanting to use synthetic gear oil but can only find 75W/90 GL4 . would it be okay to use this as a substitute ?

Yes,, seems the popular oil to use is the "REDLINE" stuff.. Have a local place here that carries the stuff.

I would recommend you stick with 75w85 GL-4, redline makes this aswell,

I have only seen 75w90 synthetic in differential gear oil and is always GL-5, GL-5 is no good in our tranmissions as this fluid ruins brass components (syncronizers specifically), and causes damage

Stick with the GL-4 75w85 redline and you"ll be fine

Just me 2 cents

This past year, RedLine came out with 75w-85 GL-4 Transmission Fluid. If you can't get it where you are, you may do a 50/50 mix of MTL 70w80 (GL-4) synthetic and MT-90 75w90 (GL-4) synthetic. This is the same requirements as in my Nissan, and I have done the 50/50 mix in the past with good results.

Manual Trans did have 75/90 GL4 oil, but Hyundai since replaced that oil with the current 75/85 GL4,, hence the TSB

Hyundai M/T course training instruction is to NOT USE GL5 in Hyundai M/T... something about the additives in the GL5 will destroy the brass synchronizer rings.
