Does anyone's floor matt creep forward or is it just mine?

I bought Lloyd aftermarket rubber ones and they creep and constantly always have to pull them back over the peg...

Most pegs I have seen have a hook, where the sonata is just a peg...any ideas? (other than getting different mats)

i had these big blocky rubber mats with raised edges and stuff for my rx 300 i mean they are really big barely fit in the car and I cut it myself to fit like a glove....thtas one option

the mats i have in this sonata right now over the OEM ones also have a major creepiong problem. once even getting stuck over the gas pedal. maybe if the mat is oversized you can try cutting it to mold better to the floor mine raises over the deadpedal quite a bit and i think that is the culprit behind the creeping

that and when i get in or out of the car there is ususally SLIPPAGE lol

I guess you have aftermarket rubber floor mats on top of oem ones.

Huh?

Nope, only the aftermarkets are in the car.

The OEM's are in the garage...

i think that was to me.
yes, i have rubber mats over the OEM. i tried having only rubber mats but something looks "missing" with all the complaints about grey carpets ive been hearing
im kinda glad the dealership screwed up and gave me beige ones!!! they stay covered all year anyways. well actually surprisingly not now. my rubber mats were washed a few weeks ago and i havent gotten around to putting them back in. they are just sitting in my garage.

if you arent using your OEM mat why not put a hole in the rubber(lol) ones? im sure you could also find something nice to line the hole with from home depot or something if you're not especially crafty and the hole comes out fcke dup

You can go to Tractor Supply and get rubber horse mats. They are big, sturdy, and have deep grooves in them.

I cut mine to cover the whole front area in my Santy and my Expedition. I am talking about from the door sill to the console, front of the seat to the firewall.

They look good, the carpet never gets dirty, they are stiff enough that they will not move, and they look good. Plus they will trap a ton of dirt and not even look dirty.

The only drawback is they give off a rubber smell for a few weeks.

I think they are around $12 each.

That's funny, the dealer gave me gray ones in my beige interior, would you be interested in trading? Or would anyone else be interested in some discounted gray ones once I break down and buy beige?

The rubber mats do have a hole....(that sounds funny)

I think I am just going to try some 2-sided carpet tape and see what happens..

Here's what you do to virtually eliminate mat creep.

Go to Walmart or a local arts and crafts store and buy a couple of rolls of velcro with the adhesive back. The only part you want is the "hook" portion of it.

Clean the back of the rubber mats with alcohol pads and stick three or four strips of the velcro strips the length of the mat with two strips on each outer edge and a couple more down the middle for good measure.

Put the mat in the car and kind of wiggle it around as you press down on it to let the "hooks" get worked into the carpet.

That should pretty much eliminate your mat creep.

Related, but maybe a bit off this thread's topic...
I have the Hyundai rubber mats in my vehicle both front and rear.
I slid the carpeted ones up a bit and put the rubber ones on top to go into the peg and they seem to be fine.
The one thing I am noticing is that they are still quite smelly.
With a bit of warmer weather hitting the area I am particularly noticing it when I get into the car with the stale heated up.
Any suggestions on how to "detox" the mats?
Also, when folks are parking their vehicle in warm weather does it matter what you leave the ventilation setting on in terms of keeping the car cool or contrarily warmer in winter?

Not sure why you'd leave the carpeted mats in under the rubber ones? Any particular reason behind that?

As for the smell, Ive had them factory rubber mats in since October and they still smell even after repeated washing with dish soap and a scrub brush. It has mellowed, but when the car has been sitting and the inside is nice and toasty it's quite noticeable. I am quite impressed with these mats, they have held up well under a rough winter and protected the carpet reasonably well.

I'm with Willay on the heavy mats. We removed our factory mats for safe keeping, and use clear, so the factory carpet color shows. They are very thick, stiff, and heavy. They don't budge a fraction. The only downside is, they have a deep tread pattern, and are a bit hard to clean.

Anyone notice the Sonata takes BIG mats to cover completely? They can be pretty hard to find!

That smell is the chemicals in the plastic off-gassing and it's **** on your long-term health. In addition, a lot of cheap plastics and synthetic rubbers contain lead so keep the kids away. My experience is that if plastic/rubber products for my home or my Sonata are still smelly after two washings, they'll never stop stinking, so I toss them and try again with a different product. There ARE good mats that don't stink, you just have to see them in person before you buy. That's why I don't like buying plastic products online.

BTW, great avatar, Zebodog. So, are you a Mac or a PC?
