First oil change, other maintenance Q's?

Hey guys, I just bought my first ever brand new car, 2012 Sonata GLS. I am a die hard Chevrolet guy, always have been, but we took a trip to New England last week, and I rented a 2011 Sonata with 27,000 miles on it, and LOVED it! What a great car all around. I googled the car one night at the Hotel, and was amazed to see the base model starting at less than $20K. Got back home, and within a week I had one, with 23 miles on it. Already had tint so didnt have to worry about that. I also got the 10 year,100,000 mile warranty.

Must say I love the car! And now my Chevy truck can sit, because at 35 mpg the car is much better than the 11 the truck gets, and I drive 80 miles a day.

ANyways, I was wondering about the maintenance? When should I chabge the oil, can I run synthetic such as Amsoil or Mobil 1, is there a fuel filter in this thing, etc? Thanks for any replies, I find it easier to join a forum rather than read a manual lol.

Pics of my car-I'd like to put chrome door handles on it

congratulations on the purchase!!!

terms of maintenance, Hyundai has a maintenance schedule in the owners manual, you should give it a read over.

as for what type of oil, synthetic is fine, I prefer anything but M1. For filters I actually recommend the OEM filter (i did a tear down of a bunch of filters for out car) No external fuel filter, only one in the tank attached to the fuel sender assy.

What I do:

Oil change every 5K miles (Pennzoil Platinum or Castrol Syntec, which ever is on sale oem filter)
Tire Rotation every other Oil change
Air filter/ cabin air filter every 10-15K miles
brake fluid change every time I do the brakes (usually every 30K)

For the transmission fluid/ coolant/ tuneup (plugs) I will do them all at 50K, along with a fuel cleaner service.

Thatch basically it for my maintenance schedule. And welcome to the forums

M1 isnt what it claims to be. It claims to be(at least it used to, havent looked in a couple years) a full synthetic even though it is not. I believe when Mobile 1 was first introduced it was in fact a true synthetic, but it is not anymore. It uses regular base stocks that are highly refined. It has some synthetic in it, but its not 100% synthetic like they claim it to be. They charge for it like its a 100% synthetic oil.

Amsoil Signature series is a true synthetic. The XL and OE series are a blend. The Signature series is 3-4 bucks a quart more than the XL or OE series. Unless you are going to run extended drain(15k+ miles) I would skip the Signature as the XL or OE are plenty good enough to run to 7500 miles. Im planning to run the XL with the EA filters at 7.5k intervals, which even the XL oil is overkill and the OE oil would be fine. The EA series filters are some of the best on the market and use a synthetic element vs. the paper that most filters use.

its really not what it usto be. there are cheaper and better alternatives out there.

Plus M1 aggravates the valve train in basically every motor out there, Just ask the F- Body guys "thumbsup"

I have also heard M1 is not full synthetic, although I ran it in my 6.0 silverado w/ turbo for about 180,000 miles until I pulled the engine apart for a rebuild cause I was adding new heads and a cam. Thing was spotless inside.

Then I somehow moved to the AMSoil side and have been using their stuff since I get it way cheaper.
