Entourage Mpg

I few months ago, I purchased the brand new Entourage. I did so because I owned a Santa Fe and loved it, plus I like the warrenty that Hyundai offers.

About a thousand miles in with the new van, I noticed that I was not getting the gas mileage that was advertised (18-25). I am getting significantly less, in between 12 - 14. I get 12 when the air conditioning is running and 14 when it is not. I drive very noramlly and am very easy on cars. 75% of my driving is also done at speeds between 45-65 with little stopping in between.

I shared my concerns with the dealer and they ran some tests on my car and said everything is normal. I was unhappy with this response because at the very least, i sould be getting the very bottom end of 18 per gallon. the 800 number people said that wait until about 3500 miles, then the car will be "broken in" and I will see a jump in gas mileage. I can see this effecting 1 or 2 MPG, but 10 MPG, I just don't see how that is possible.

My question to you all is, has anyone had a similiar problem with their Hyundai, specifically an Entourage. And what type of gas mileage are you getting in your Entourage.

Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem and have been told the same things as you. I also am having issues with the transmission, so figure this is affecting the mileage. I get between 12-14 miles per gallon on the freeway. I am taking legal action as Hyundai, including their Consumer Affairs, are giving me the run around and telling me it running fine. Strange - when they test the fuel consumption it was 19 mpg, but are unable to provide receipts to confirm. I also didn't read on their paperwork that to get their mileage you had to take all the seats out of the vehicle either - thats what they did with mine!!! Pretty poor that they try and cheat to prove you wrong!

one year, 20000 miles, still averaging about 15MPG with stop and go city driving.
highway trips can be 24mpg with no hills and keep the speed under 70.

65 mph actually saves gas. 55 more so but you'll cause traffic issues. I've been really careful with the gas pedal around 65, or with cruise and sat at 27...any acceleration or hill will drop this fast.

I had the van for about 2 weeks and 800 km on the odometer. I find the computer MPG a little pessimistic - it will update quickly to show higher fuel consumption but very slow to show lower fuel consumption.

I observed this phenomenon while driving on the highway the other day. I had reset the computer before I re-enter the highway, so when I merge with traffic, I expect the MPG to be lower because of the acceleration. However, as I cruise at a steady speed of around 100 km/h, it doesn't adjust or update to a lower fuel consumption as my Altima does. Usually when you are going down a slope and not pressing on the gas, it is just coasting and should show lower fuel consumption - the Entourage doesn't. Does anyone notice this?

The best way to measure MPG is still checking how much fuel you pump divided by the total distance travel since last fueled.

I have an 07 with 5K. Initially I was seeing averages of 18-ish, but recently (last 2 - 3 tanks) it's averaged 14-15. I live in Colorado, so I'm wondering if the temeratures have an impact.

Don't slam Hyundai for the mpg ratings - those are from the EPA. That said, I'm very dissappointed with the drop in mpg. Our driving is a mix of stop and go and freeway. I feel like I should be seeing at LEAST 18 as a combined average.

The geezer and Grandma are just back from a Hyundai road trip. Missouri to Phoenix to Sedona to Reno to San Francisco, back to Bakersfield to I-40 to I-44 and home. We did lots of mountain driving, and some ridiculous hill-climbing in San Francisco (bad idea.) Total mileage on our 07 Entourage is now 34K, about 5K this trip alone. We have a gold model exactly like member cxl1 described.
Overall mpg was 24.6. From receipts along the way, I calculated worse mileage with California gas, about 22.8. With Midwestern gas, TX, OK, MO, IL I get better mileage 25.8 to 26.2 mpg. Is it all just because these states are flatter? In SW Missouri, where everything is hilly, I actually use premium gas, because the car loves it, and the 9% increase in price per gallon is offset by 12% better mileage. Our most recent MO jaunt on premium yielded 27 mpg highway.
Disclaimers: Friends, I drive like a geezer. I set the cruise control on the speed limit, not what I think I can get away with. After more than a million highway miles as an adult, I have never had to replace the brakes on any vehicle I have owned (now numbering 41.) And I drive carefully, defensively, assuming that my car is completely surrounded by inbred, slack-jawed, booger-eating morons (I usually am) who are trying to bankrupt my insurance company. I don’t worry about wind noise over 80 mph because I don’t drive 80, and I’m deafer than a post anyway.
Of all the long-distance machines we have driven, BMW 535i, Sedan de Villes, Chrysler T&Cs, several Volvos, 2 Kias, and the previous favorite VW Passat V6, the 07 Entourage is the best we have ever owned.

I just completed a 3000+ mile trip from FL. to WI. and back......
Most of the trip was on the Interstate traveling mostly at 70+ mph except for a 2 hour bumper to bumper stop and go road repair in Atlanta area :=(
Using the old method of gas used and mileage traveled I ended up with a total trip
of 24.85 miles per gallon. Using the trip computer during the stop and go portion of the trip it showed no lower then 19.6 mpg.
Over all for a 4000+lb van I'm happy with the results. {Started the trip with OD @ 2435 miles on an 08 Limited}

The ride was great.
This is one heck of highway cruiser

Our '06 Sedona EX (identical to Entourage) was averaging 15-16mpg mixed city and not much more hwy when new. The engine took a long time to break in. At around 20k miles, it improved to 19+mpg mostly around town. On the hwy, 24mpg at steady 65-70mph, and as much as 26mpg if I drop the cruise control down below 55mph.

Our mileage is at practically sea level and year-round ambient temp range of 50-95F. Both of these will have significant impact on mpg.

I am in Canada. Have about 10K km (6K miles) on my 2008 Entourage. My US MPG has ranged between 20-23 in the few months with a mixture of in-town driving and some short highway driving. It was a bit worse initially but that was in the middle of winter. I have yet to do a full-tank road trip, where I expect better figures.

Overall I am happy with the mileage achieved. It's as good as or better than my old van that had a smaller engine with lower output and weighed about 700 pounds less. My highway cruise speed is usually about 68-70mph.

First tank of gas: 15.8MPG Approx 75%City and 25% Highway
I drive mostly City so I estimate it will be closer to 14MPG...we will see.

UPDATE:
2nd tank: 15.12 by calculator and 15.2 onboard computer - pretty close
85% city / 15% highway - mostly flat and approx 150ft above sea level - using A/C frequently
Odometer: 610 miles

UPDATE 11/19/09
3rd tank: 15.21 by calculator and 15.3 onboard computer
90% city / 10% highway - mixed AC usage - slight improvement as I reach the 1200 break-in
BTW I have been driving lightfoot - blue haired grandma's have been passing me.
Odometer: 930

UPDATE 01/08/10
My wife has been driving for the 4th and 5th tanks and didn't note the mileage.
Road trip to Big Bear Lake for New Years Eve. Approx 200 miles round trip. Elevation climb to around 8,500ft. 3 adults and 2 small children + luggage + heavy emergency kit backpack + heavy jumpstart battery so about 900lbs in passenger & cargo weight (my wife packs as if we were going away for 7 days--it was for 1 night)
Onboard computer 20.0mpg - Fuel gage was at 1/2 tank.
Highway speeds was approx 70-75mph.
Odometer: 1950

UPDATE 01/18/10
Finished 2nd half of the tank after Big Bear trip - I know...I dont drive much.
Calculator: 18.5mpg and 18.7 onboard computer
50% highway(BigBearTrip) 50% city
Odometer: 2075

we bought ours with 27k on it (07) a little over a year ago, and have been getting 22-27 miles per gallon on the freeway. Just took a trip to Disneyland from wyoming and averaged 23ish. with speeds around 80/85 mph. Passed 50k on the way. On long trips I always make sure my tire pressure is in its sweet spot for the best mileage. My city driving is not as good, I expect because its so cold right now.

I also have an Entourage which gets horrible gas mileage to say the least. The horrible gas mileage is nothing compared to all the other problems I have had with this van...electric doors not working, tires and battery that wear out, noises coming from front end, Airbag and TPMS lights that illuminate and don't shut off. We have spent more time at the dealership then we should have. I have never got 18MPG..usuall around 15 mpg.

We have an '08 Entourage and we do 75% city driving. We get high teens consistenly (18-19 mpg), and sometimes in the low 20's (20-22mpg). My wife doesn't always track the mileage at fill-ups, so it's difficult to see consistency. This is exactly what is what advertised to be, so I'm happy. I love this van, it was waaaay better than our last Honda Odyssey.

Well our 07 Entourage SE gets between 12~14.X around town and recently achieved 21.9MPG on a 100 mile run from Sarasota to Winter Haven.

Next step is to pump up the tires to 40PSI and see how that improves things.

#46 ·
Tires have now been pumped up to 36PSI and around town it's already over 16MPG. I did a shortish run tonight with a mix of town and rural and it returned 20.5 so that's quite an improvement based on simply pumping up the tires!

I'll probably try pumping the tires up to 40PSI next.

The van feels so much better with the higher pressures as well :)
