Engineering Mode

There's a "secret" feature that all Hyundais from the past decade seem to share. The Engineering Mode allows service techs to access information about the car that we're not intended to know about.
Access this menu at your own risk as there are several tests and settings you may have access to that may result in unintended vehicle function. There is a factory reset just in case, but if you figure out how to sideload apps, be careful as you could easily brick your system.

The infotainment system runs Android 4.4.2. To access the Engineering Mode, go to Setup / General Settings / SW Info/Update. There is a large Update button in the center section with small blank spaces on either side. Press the left space 5 times and then once on the right side. Engineering Mode should appear.
I've only just started looking into the menu here but hopefully there are some interesting infos or settings that could improve your driving experience.

Feel free to share if you decide to dive into this and find anything interesting.

edit: This doesn't seem to work after the Nov 2020 map/software update. Please post if you figure out the new sequence.

Does this method still work?
To access full engineering menu you use the same method of volume to 7 then 3 then 1 pressing on the screen on the system info screen and instead of using code 2400 for dealer menu you enter code 0428 to get to full engineering menu.
I am hoping that android menu is just another code but I have not found it yet.

What does the engineering menu do for you? Does anyone have what items can be changed?

2900 used to work for my 2018 Sonata but not anymore:

It worked after after I did the November software update just before the new year. However, it's not working anymore in the new year. Is it possible that Hyundai pushed out some type of over the air update via BlueLink. Maybe the password changes based on the year or it's something else altogether?

I was randomly tapping left and right of the UPDATE button today while waiting in my car and managed to get it to pop up a toast message that said something to the effect of "Screen capture mode enabled". I managed to repeat the sequence a couple times turning the mode off and back on again. It didn't seem to change anything.

Before the random tapping above, I was scrolling through the modes and options on the cluster screen and noticed that the selection text above and below the MPG image (for example) were in Korean. I had to go into the NAV language settings, select Korean, and change it back to bring the cluster back to English.

I know that in navigation based on android 4.2... in enginering menu you can for example change radio frequency so the radio works on frequencies used in Europe (even and odd). You can also alow to install aps from unknown sources and install other apps (Google Maps, Here, Youtube and movie players or online tv). Russians do magic in those stations but it need to be on Android 4...

Haven't tried it yet, but looks promising: 2020 & 2021 Sonota April '21.

I will update after trying.
Ah! I was close with the 5 and 7 taps. I had gotten the screen capture message before but didn't know what to do with it.

Edit: Confirmed working! Looks like there are a few new/changed items from what I remember before

The tapping the two sides to start screen logging or whatever then holding media down for a while till I get 3 toasts in Korean works on the 2021 sonata limited with the April 2021 update. There honestly isn't much in the engineering mode for normal people, maybe some "hackers" can find a way to unlock file management or something. You can see a lot of settings not meant for your car, like augmented reality, climate control settings for stuff we don't have, 3d instrument cluster settings, etc. More settings for features not on the sonata then are. Cool to see, but just gives errors when you enable. Lots of diagnostics and self tests for pretty much every system, really advanced audio tuning and settings, some cool "back end" information about what the car is thinking, error logs, can bus information, camera tuning. Some of its in Korean some in English. You can also force updates here... maybe a key to getting hacked versions to install apps - it's definitely Android

That picture was taken pre update, I can't find the package manager anymore post April update.

I can confirm working with the April 2021 update. 5 taps to the left, then about 20 taps to the right. After this is done, hold the MEDIA button, until 3 popups, then release, it will enter Engineering mode. Note I do not believe you need to do the 5 taps and 20 taps again for future access. Just press and hold the media button to enter. Sadly I didn't see the auto seat adjustment thing in there. I was curious! Not really much that I could find useful or helpful in there yet.

This is correct, once "ScreenCapture" is enabled, it will stay on and you need only to hold the Media button through the messages. (Been meaning to translate them and figure out what they say.)

Sadly I didn't see the auto seat adjustment thing in there. I was curious!
It's there. Go to "Module Info", tap next to page 3, "Test Setting", and set "Show All USM Items" to ON. Then back out of Engineering Mode and go to your seat settings. I think the one at the bottom of the list is the Posture Analysis. For me, it put me slightly too far forward and the seatback was WAY too upright.
I wish more of those features that show up were usable. The system is capable of some very interesting functions.

I got a functional LTE hotspot working and connected my smartphone to it. It can connect to a lot of sites, but I don't want to push the data usage too far. Might be good in an emergency though. It seems it has all the hardware for wireless Android Auto, but it needs a software patch.

Model: DN8N20S.DVAMC.US
SW Ver.: DN8.USA.D2V.001.003.191129
Accessed by 5 taps on the left corner and 1 on the right. Sometimes have to do it twice. Code is 2400.

Edit: Got it to update by trying a few more times, they enabled Wireless Android Auto, wow!
