Door handle buttons won't unlock doors any more...

As the title says, on my 2012 Azera w/Tech package, if you stand next to the vehicle, with the keys in your pocket (or even in your hand right next to the vehicle), and press the black button, nothing happens anymore. It worked when we first bought the car, and has steadily decreased in operation to the point that we have to use the remote to unlock doors. One of the cool things about having this feature is that you don't have to drag your keys out anymore, yet of course this isn't working. A visit to the dealer didn't help at all - they said it's working perfectly and that you just have to be patient and keep trying. Crazy thing is we also have a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and all you have to do is touch the door handle and all the doors unlock.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, did you get it to work again as advertised?

Go back...something is definitely wrong. If they say nothing is wrong, google search another Hyundai dealer.

My daughter’s 2018 Tucson drivers door handle lock stopped working. We contacted the dealer and they replaced the handle. It works now fine. Definitely have them replace yours. The whole point of keyless entry is to not get your keys out. I would call a different dealership if they tell you to be patient again. 😃

That doesn't sound right. Mine works fine. If the key is in your pocket, and you push the button it will lock and unlock. There is no 'patience' needed nor should you need to 'keep trying'. One time is all that is needed.

Show the dealer/service technician how it doesn't work -- they need to figure it out and fix it.

If your key works to remotely unlock the door, maybe it is the button on the door itself...Does this happen with both sides? Also does the trunk button work?

Anyway, whatever the problem is, it's their job to figure it out.

Yep, it happens on both sides, and I don't go to the trunk to try pressing that button. Either way, it worked when we first got the car, now it doesn't, and a Google search has proven fruitless (other than to point me to this forum).

Looks like a trip to the dealer, and this time I want answers. ^_^

I bought the car at Larry H. Miller Hyundai - I'll be paying them a visit.

And, neither key fob works in proximity, no matter where you are or how you locked the car. Tested again last night and it just doesn't work. When I first bought the car, all I had to do was have either key fob in my hand or in my pocket, walk up to the car, and press the black button on the handle and the doors would instantly unlock. Now, I can have the key < 6" from the handle and press the button -- nothing.

It's just a minor annoyance, but the idea of having a smart key is so that you don't have to dig your keys out of your pocket or your purse.

So, it's been a long time, but I finally have an update on this problem. I brought the car to the dealer, and they said the door handle and controls inside are not working properly and they ordered me a new handle complete with controls/electronics inside. It took them a week or two to get the parts as they also had to have matching paint done on the bottom half of the handle. The car was brought to the dealership today, and in the process of replacing the driver's side door handle, they said there were pins missing so they ordered a new wiring harness. Car is supposed to be completely fixed by 11:00am tomorrow morning.

So, it seems the passenger side door button still works flawlessly, but the driver's side had some bad contacts and/or electronics inside the handle, and they are replacing it under warranty.
