I'm aware of that, but they are both rated at 110 hp. Could it be differences with the ECU'S ?
It could even be the way that the car is being driven as well as the way it has been setup( spark plug types ) , And remember that the sensors on the car will start to break down as the car ages and not be working to their peak performance anymore.
All this said if both cars were new with the same HP then they should have the same performance.

My wifes 03 Accent 1.6ltr DOHC auto sedan drove like your dads Rio when the air was on, it acted like over half of the power was gone. I changed the plugs for a set of top line NGK plugs, cleaned out the throttle and was just able to adjust the idle up just a little but not so much that the car as revving or that the engine light came on as well as adjusting the throttle linkage so it was tighter with no slack in the calbe, after that you could drive up hills with the A/C on and the engine didn't bogg out on and from a stop could spin the tires. The throttle screw is behind a white cap on the lower part of the throttle by the throttle plate. :innocent: :whistling:

manual is awsome on the accent and is very easy to drive Dalwin i driving a 18 wheeler the clutch is at least 20 pounds and i have to go thru 6 gears to reach 40mph and total of 10 gears and limited to 65 mph so everytime i am stuck in traffic is like helll for me
I hear some of those Big Rigs are available w/Automatics.

Well, to each their own - that is why cars have *options*. I will assume Troy is a troll here?

FYI Tory, old age is not the only reason to need/want an automatic, try 6 knee surgeries...
I feel your pain, my wife has 2 herniated disks and a broken tail bone w/ a peppering of nerve degeneration and siatica down her left leg.

So yeah, manual is not an option for her. She can still drive a manual, but she will pay for it the next day.

I drove both the 09 Accent GS MT & AT...I ended up buying the AT.

Sure the MT feels peppy, but stepping on the clutch was disconcerting. I mean, I can push it down with the tip of my toe. If you actually step on it with the base of the foot, if feels as if your foot will go through the floor. Also, no feedback as to the actual engagement point. And the shifter feel was not any better. Palming it felt like holding onto some ancient hand mixer or something...

On the other hand, the AT seems smooth to me. Sure, once you're rolling you have to plan any pass moves, and you have to use the full length of the ramp to merge onto the highway. But hey, I knew I was getting an econobox. No problems here with cruising around with cold AC (in Arizona :) ).

Sadly, while *I* may like to shift, the left knee does not any longer (not even the nice light hydrolic ones <sp>). But, also, there are days that nice easy stick it in D and go driving is nice - does not make me old???

In my head, I'm still 25...LOL

I am not quite sure how buying an automatic means your old. I am not into speed and don't feel like shifting all day in traffic. Nothing more. That's like saying having cruise control makes you old because you don't feel like holding your foot on the gas pedal on a 1300 mile trip.

well we are talking a 5 year old car compare to a brand new car. that itself its a big difference, no matter how good you follow the maintenance of the car.
I'm just saying it's performance has never changed during the last five years...It only has 31,000kms (19220 miles) on it !!!!

Autos or sticks, subcompact cars are hot tranny messes either way. How's that for a trolling comment?!? LOL

Seriously, though...did nobody think to put a 6spd in the Accent? I mean, 4,000 RPM @ 80mph on the highway is a bit ridonkulous.

Then again...perhaps 80mph on the highway in an Accent is what's ridonkulous? I dunno..

In my opinion I have bought auto's when they have floated my way at a good price. I never settled into one, I feel to detached the tranny cant see the road & I have to wait for it to read my intentions. Forget that I want to tell the car when to go. I also dont find stop & go traffic to be bad, especially in these cars they will walk in 2nd gear. Plus I get 36 mpg with aspirated driving. I really dont think the auto can do that. If you kept the peddle down to even come close to the manuals performance I am sure gas milage would suck.

To each there own for there own reasons.

I had this exact thought....when I was doing 80mph on the highway.

:right:

I guess if it can supposedly sustain ~4k rpm on the highway it can do it in the twisties in 3rd gear as well.

LOL!! I use cruise control every day simply going to and from work! Keeps me from getting tickets in my 35MPH zones close to hom - 7 miles of 35 MPH is a killer twice daily!

My wife HATES no cruise in her 07 Accent too...and NOW they finally came out with it???

It'd be cool if the accent had paddle shifters like my mom's Lexus IS250. even though my accent goes 0 to 60 in 3 minutes. haha I like the option :]
Honda Fit also has paddles...Accent does the 0-60 in 8.7 according to Motortrend June 09 which isnt bad....considering.
and does the quarter in 16.6...also not bad. I had a 70 Chevelle SS with a 375 horse 396...first pass I did on the 1320
was 15.5 ! ...had a problem hooking up though...but it also got seven miles to the gallon.
