Does cooling fan automatically come on with a/c on?

I've had cars in the past that the fan would come on automatically when the ac was turned on regardless of the temp. Meaning the second the ac button was hit, the cooling fan came on.

I have the 13 GS and it does not come on automatically. Is the fan supposed to come on automatically with ac on or is it temperature driven even with ac on?

Tell me about it. I'm not a repair novice. I've kept old cars running way past their expiration date. I've not owned anything made within the past decade until last year. While doing some reading, I found that some steering pumps are electric now. Like I said, I'm not a complete idiot with cars, but that shows how behind the times I am with technology now.

Mine does the same thing so it is normal.

The condenser and compressor must work very efficient to be able to have the fan operate, especially given that we only have ONE fan since most FWD econo cars have two.

I know that with my car, once I start moving at decent speeds, the car cools down much quicker, but sitting idle takes a while, like most cars.

What's throwing me is that sitting at a stop light for 10 seconds on a hot day the ac completely stops blowing cold. And I mean completely stops. It doesn't blow less cool air it blows 100% warm air. So much I have to roll the windows down or it's like a blow dryer. Seems like there is no air flow from the fan to the ac.

My 2012 Sonata's fan does come on automatically with ac, after 10 seconds or so.

Edit: Just went out and with Accent idle and ac on I can hear the fan, not ac compressor, click but not turn on. Then about 10-20 seconds car is off the fan clicks again (like the 'timer' is telling it to turn off) but the fan itself doesn't run.

I think something is off. Just wanted to get some more owners feedback.

It's not that it gets less cool while stopped. It is 100% hot air while stopped. It's like a hair dryer. No fan blowing over condenser would cause that.
Yes. You said that before.

SOMETHING needs to take the heat out of the condensor.
If you are not moving and the fan is not running, that isn't happening. Probably even gets some extra heat from the radiator.

The system really does not "add cold" to the inside but exhausts heat to the outside. Without air moving over the condensor, that ain't happening.

Wanted to payoff this thread by telling the outcome, just in case others may have the same issue at one point.

As suspected the fan wasn't working. The explanation given by the dealer was fan weight came off, lodged in motor, burned up the fan motor and blew the fuse.

They replaced the fan. All is right with the world. Cold air at stop lights too.

All fell under warranty. Dealer picked up rental because part had to be ordered.

I doubted my self at first because my experience has been with older cars. I thought maybe newer cars "acted" different but I guess some things never change. I knew something was off and should have went with my gut at first thought.

Next up... Just bought a rim off ebay for 30 so now for a full sized spare.

Thanks for all that replied. You were a big help.
