I've seen several requests for users to post the direct download to one of several CarPlay updates for 2015 Sonatas. Hyundai isn't making that link readily available, but I found the URL after digging around in the source code on myhyundai.com.

DISCLAIMERS/NOTES
  • Check MyHyundai.com FIRST to see if there is a download for you specific Sonata, as there are multiple updates for different Sonata models, and using the wrong update can cause issues.
  • I own a 2015 Sonata Limited. The update worked great on my car, but no guarantee it will work for other models.
  • This download is specifically for the 9.5GB 2015 Sonata update.
  • Make a backup of the files on your Sonata's SD card before launching the Hyundai Update Tool found in this download, just in case.
  • The SD card has to be inserted into your computer for the Hyundai Update Tool to run. As such, this update will not work with Sonatas that don't feature a NAV system that uses an SD card.
  • If you don't have an SD card reader, you can buy one from Amazon for like $7!
  • These download links are directly from Hyundai, so if they stop working, it's because Hyundai changed the URLs.

DOWNLOADS

Good luck, and please post what model of car you have (and what country if not in the US), and let us know if it worked!

So here's the deal

Sonata 2015

I purchased US version of 11.5 from MapnSoft ( with my VIN ) - I couldn't install it, returned as I told them it was a mistake **Kept a copy**
I purchased CA version of 11.5 from MapnSoft ( with my VIN ) - I tried to play around with the update files from the US to Canadian and then copying the has values in the cert. checksum and md5 of the CA version

Whatever I do, I still get the same error

What the heck is this

Also, in the updates of both the above, there are 2 update folders

For eg.,

In the main folder

It has

D:\IBOX\st_lf\ca\update ( the cert and checksum values are bit diff than the one below )

and

D:\update

Test of CarPlay

As promised, I went to visit some friends tonight who are Apple guys so we hauled one of their iPhones out to my car that's been updated with the "software hack" outlined by Moodib so we could test CarPlay and Siri. I did the change suggested by Moodib to edit the voice recognition line in one of the files to be .CA instead of .NA which was believed could possibly fix the Siri voice response issue other people have noted.

I can now confirm that even after making that change prior to doing the update you do not hear any of the voice feedback from Siri regardless of what audio source you're listening to. We tried it with both a built-in source (FM radio) and a CarPlay source (a song played off the iPhone).

Yeah, their security mechanism definitely isn't going to allow you to mix-and-match files between the US and CA installers. From everything I've seen at this point I'm willing to fully blame Hyundai for not allowing/instructing MapNSoft to do AA/CarPlay for 2015/16 Sonatas. As soon as Hyundai tried to claim it couldn't be done because of "hardware incompatibilities" I knew their claim was suspect. Especially considering some of us are running it right now.

2016 Hyundai Sonata SE Audio Display (without Navi).

I just bought a used 2016 Hyundai Sonata without Navigation and I couldn't register on myhyundai to get the carplay update tools. As being said, does anyone have a direct download file for the 16 Sonata w/out Navigation, the file should be around 1.5GB not 9GB fyi? (I'm in the US)

#336 ·
For those folks that "updated" the Canadian model to run Android Auto, can you test to see if it works in the French language? I remember reading here that was the reason for issues releasing to our model. I thought it was odd; however, if someone can test and post results/screenshots that would be great. If it works then one last attempt to get Hyundai to have MNSOFT release this in their next update. Thanks.

Re: 2016 Hyundai Sonata SE Audio Display (without Navi).

To register on MyHyundai, you can try calling Hyundai corporate tech support on the phone...
... but you might end up in the situation like mine: http://www.hyundai-forums.com/general-hyundai-non-model-specific-discussion/587481-%5Brant%5D-hyundai-wants-excessive-personal-info-recall-notifications-aa-update.html

... Or, maybe a local dealer might be able to help you with that...

If you manage to register and get the file, I'd appreciate if you can share it.

Darn: what a mess! I am happy that my (and all) MY18 Hyundai comes with Map Care (5 yrs), full BlueLink (3 yrs) and maintenance (2 yrs). It would be nice if all the Hyundai dealers knew, most do not even know about BlueLink much less the rest.

St Augustine Hyundai - the largest in the country - does.

I can confirm no issues with Siri, tested Bluetooth
No issues with Native navigation
No errors
I dont see Bluelink option
I removed the wifi line from checksum unless I have wifi, I dont know

Here is a short video on a Jailbroken iPhone 6 with 9.3.3 NGX Play
Netflix - only has sound but apart from that
Messages
Browsers
Gmail
Youtube
Waze
Slingplayer
Google Maps
Google Earth ( doesnt render )
DI.FM ( can change songs with steering, and its pumped loud )
Camera - this is the best, just keep is hanging anywhere and you can see everything on screen

I'm sure you do have WiFi as it's now enabled in my 2015 Sonata and it works, although it doesn't look like you can use it for anything because you need a BlueLink acccount to download anything for some reason.

@user828 - I sent you a PM on this but might be beneficial to others. So for me the 11.5 US update has the following files in the folder:
/update/system/hib.img
/update/system/update_encrypted.zip
/update/system/update_system.zip
/update/system/vr.img

Q1: Did you copy all these 4 files down?
Q2: I don't seem to have a system/update file - did you mean the entire folder?
Q3: For the 4 files above, did you ONLY copy their respective certificate and checksum values from the US file to the CA file - or did you copy the entire certificate and checksum files from US to CA?
Q4: Certificate file references the checksum file - did you also update this value or leave as is?

Thanks for all your help!

1) Only 3 files

https://i.imgur.com/GJhYm3u.jpg

2)

See screenshot above, there is update.rar

3) Respective values

So values of those files from US to CA
Cert
Checksum
Checksum_md5

Left everything else

i checked ur cert file u sent me, instead of the update.rar reference in the cert ( the one ure missing ), I see
/update/modem/modem_version.txt : <<<<<<<<< I dont have this

Is your file 2016 Sonata or 2015?

4) Copied from US one, this did puzzle me too as we are updating them too so wouldnt their hash values change, apparently it didn't make a difference

So on the 2016, trying to install 11.5 with the 11.5 US files (user828 hack). Unfortunately I am getting the following error:

xDEBUG MESSAGE(662806) : [/mnt/udisk/IBOX/st_lf16/ca/update/checksum.md5] orginal sha512 value : 0C262A84D08F3A5D1686DD62B603F542D0D8F7401DC1E6A7A2DDC7BEB336BFC945F1D58BA4B0704FE8ADC982CC55624D1A711AC3E129922DED317BB8E42AF435 checked sha512 value : a61601ccd7a4d4fc8f8f0d557d029724010d496a24fde1b080b5514fae6dac84e5ef7e9d2f5c4a6a5d4804a46d9e531ca40f836387c8fb637fc7d1a80836eb60
1ERROR MESSAGE(662806) : Invalid SHA512 Hash Value

I suspected this would happen. The md5 file does not have these values. I think they are derived from the certificate file using the device id.

Any ideas?

What's interesting is this file is not even in the md5 file and only referenced in the certificate file. Changing it to the US value did not work.

Looks like 2016 model MNSOFT further tightened things :( Any ideas from someone?
Can u zip ur Cert, checksum and md5 of both Cad and US for me

I dont think they put special measures just for 2016, remember i got this day 1 and I still couldnt get it, then just planned it slowly - I also used to get invalid value

Do this, send me those files, let me see

Make sure ur SD has 11.5 on it and inserted - then once I back the files, paste and try from USB

SUCCESS!!!

Woohoo! I now have AA (and AC) available on my Canadian 2016 Sonata.

I had a special case. I had installed update 10.5 from MNSOFT before the method of getting AA in our model was found earlier in this thread. A big thanks to user828 who figured out the way for this to work using the 11.5 image from MNSOFT. Here are the steps I followed:

1. You need to purchase the 11.5 US MNSOFT update for the same Sonata model. Once done, you need to copy this image to a folder "11.5 NA" (Name can be anything). There is a way to get refunded for this purchase and keep the image but YMMV.
2. You need to purchase the 11.5 CA MNSOFT update for the same Sonata model. Copy this entirely to the SD-CARD that comes with the card. Do NOT touch or delete anything. This should be plugged into the car. You should see any error message saying maps not compatible with this version. Just ignore.
3. Get a 16GB USB thumb drive
4. Copy the entire contents from the SD CARD to this 16GB USB thumb drive
5. Open up the USB drive and go into the ICOM folder until you get to the update folder. Enter this folder. Do the same for your image in your "11.5 NA folder".
6. Copy update_encrypted and update_system from this directory (11.5 NA folder) to the same directory on your USB DRIVE.
7. Now the update directory should have certificate.000 file and checksum.md5.
8. Start with certificate.000. Copy the values from the "11.5 NA" version of this file for update_encrypted and update_system and REPLACE the values on your USB version
8. Do the same for the update_encrypted value in checksum.md5. Copy from "11.5 NA" to the USB drive

Go to your car and insert the SD CARD followed by the USB drive.

Hit update and make sure the check/verification process completes. After that go do something for like 15-20 minutes. I don't know exactly when it finished but when I came back it had booted with no error.

Go to Setup and you should see a Connectivity icon. if you do, you NOW HAVE AA and AC !!! And for cheers, your NAV maps are updated to 11.5 as well.

Here is my theory of why is this worked (just a guess). I think the security check, since both the SD CARD and USB have the update folder, is run against the SD CARD where it passes. However, the files are injected from the USB. I don't really care it works :) My wife believes her presence in the car was what made it work so I'll leave that up to you if you want to have your spouse sit in the passenger side during the update :)

Thumbs up and a bug thanks again to everyone, especially you user828 for getting this to work!

Thumbs down to Hyundai for lying AA is not compatible with our head unit, promising to give it and then not deliver.

For those that may not know, you can download Waze on your phone and then pick on the Sonata screen (icon) whether to use Google Maps or Waze.

Time to enjoy AA!!

#379 ·
This is excellent news!

I wonder, though... Since the install requires a auth code entered into the head unit, wouldn't it stand to reason that the US files that need to be copied over could be packaged up and distributed by someone who has the US files? Since they don't require the code to download, they would have to be free of VIN dependance, yeah? Would maybe save some people the hassle of trying to purchase and return the US files...

#375 ·
^^ so glad it worked for you and I was the one with the least knowledge of hash values etc - lol. I just thought why not get both updates and swap em, leave the rest to Sonata

I think the security check, since both the SD CARD and USB have the update folder, is run against the SD CARD where it passes

Yes this was puzzling all this time, so I think this is correct

If you have jailbroken phone, you can add lot more. Here is a trick, tell Siri open Google - then tap the MIC on the screen to say "Navigate to ...", it will then use Google Maps which it normally wouldn't via Siri ( this is if u want Voice Activated )
BTW, did you get Modem? Bluetooth

#377 ·
Glad you tried what you did :)

I have an Android phone so by default it uses Google Maps along with voice activation or using the MIC button on the steering wheel. I can press a button and choose between Waze and Google Maps. It was cool to launch Android Auto and say "OK Google", "What is the price of gas at the nearest Petro Canada" ... it then brings up a map with nearest Petro Canada and the price of regular gas.

I forgot about the modem and bluelink .. I'll check that next time I am there. Don't plan on using it anyway.

#382 ·
Right, that didn't work. Keep getting an error "Please check the update memory and try again."

I tried via the USB in the console with vanilla SD in the deck, and with no USB in the console and the files modified on the SD card. Both ways, same error.

I am going to try my backdoor hacking of the vanilla 10.5 to trick the deck into thinking the update is NA, when it is really CA. Then I will retry the above methods.

This may seem like a dumb question, but does it matter that I am driving a 2015? Can it be updated via the USB?

#393 ·
Guys, I have A A in my new Santa Fe Sport Ultimate, and to be perfectly honest I hate it! It is "E530" which - at least for now - the latest available.

Have you tried it or even seen anyone using it? My main concern is that once you have it installed and working, simply plugging your smartphone in by USB disables nearly all of your built-in stuff, and I personally like the built-in nav.

#395 ·
I like it as you are basically using Google Apps on your car dash. It has the latest map and traffic.

For us it does not launch by default as you have to hit Android Auto on the screen. If it launches for you, in AA, click the last right icon on the bottom and that takes you back to Hyundai stock. You can use built-in then.

I don't think the car actually updates AA, it is updated based on the app on your phone.

#396 ·
I think I may have this!! I have my stock card in there with whatever version was pre-10.5 and AA installed now. I did a straight dump, unmodified of the US 11.5 to a USB stick. Plugged it in and it was recognized right away. Weird thing was that it said I already had that version installed and did I want to update anyway.

I am now re-downloading the clean CA 11.5 onto the USB stick, and will sub in the US files and see what happens. The one thing I noted is that on the US version, the update folder is at the root of the USB stick, not embedded in the Ibox folder.

That may be the ticket for those of us who already updated. On a side note, I tried Waze in the car this past weekend. I like it, except that the traffic doesn't change the route colour as it does in google maps.

#397 ·
This is looking good, the update passed the checks!!! It is updating right now in the car.

I COPIED the update file with the modified checksums already done to the root of the USB, and also left the original in the ibox folder.

Will update soon.

Ok, I got a full US to run this morning on the way to work (boring drive, but it served a purpose). The system updated to E530 fine, no bricking. The update fails with an error 604 on the modem update (shocking!!), and the head unit restarts from there. So this means that anyone who used @Moodib method to get AA functionality can still update the system. I have to see if the CA update I purchased from MNSoft will allow me to use the new maps when I install it back to the card tonight. As it sits right now, I get a "failed to authorize navigation". Which again is fine, as I use Waze/GoogleMaps anyway. If not, then I'll go after the refund for it.

I noticed in the update the Advanced Setting tab, and played in there for a bit before coming into the building. You can pick which modes the "Mode" button will cycle through. This serves a purpose as most have probably noticed that if you are listening to SiriusXM, you get no voice prompts from AA as the system sees them as two different sound inputs. You only see the spinning dots move as the system is "talking". You can now cycle the input to AA, and get those prompts, then cycle back to SiruisXM, all by pressing the "Mode" button on the steering wheel.

I can only assume that this would also work with Siri, but I don't have an iPhone to test.

#417 ·
Right, it's borked. I can only control volume if I am using the phone. I have no functionality with the volume knob on the console, or the paddle switch on the steering wheel... DO NOT DO WHAT I TRIED.

Now I will see how much it will cost to get a new head unit.
