It'd be snug, but probably! There's at least 5' in there..not sure how much more if you moved the seats up.

it'd be cool if Hyundai came out with a pop-out tent like the aztec or whatever

 

the Aztec is the ugliest car ever, and the tent didn't help it any. and who goes camping and would rather sleep in the back of the car rather then a tent... shame

 

for me its hudge ! I bought my GT 28 feb this year and i was also looking at the mazda 3 hatch and toyota matrix. Gt won for price/equipment and cargo space. the only thing it miss is the floor to be at the same lvl as the rear bumber like the toyota matrix.
If i remember, the GT have the best cargo space comparated to matric and mazda 3

 

shame...lol. Whatevs - I think it'd be neat. You know when you pull it back in, the car goes back to looking like the GT, and not the aztec, right?

 

Hyundai makes a tent that attaches to the rear of the car, like an aztec.

I realize they make a tent, but my whole point was not pitching a tent. I know its wide enough for 2 but not sure about length. Maybe a kind GT owner could take a measuring tape and do a measurement with the front seats up all the way.

 

4'- 8 1/2" (same as railway track gauge incidentally.. lol)
the back seat bottom flips up to make the backs rest flat and limits the space, and even with the front seat all the way forward, it will only swing up and forward so far on the hinge.... though even if it was forced, you gain about 1 more inch.

 

Wow there's 8 feet of length? That's plenty long enough for 2 normal sized people to sleep in. Thanks, I might have to trade in when they put a GDI in the GT.

 

Me thinks you misread. The OP said four feet, 8.5 inches. I am 5'11" and when I fold everything down I can lay down at an angle and it would be comfortable with proper padding/small air mattress under my rather large bod! Another person would have to be pretty petite to fit two back there.
