So when I tried to call someone in my phonebook, the car's system just hangs. So for example, if I press the command button, the lady says,"say a command" and the screen on the radio reads "call/dial/etc etc". Well if I say,"call john". nothing happens. Silence. The screen on the radio freezes on "Call/Dial/" and nothing ever happens. BUT. If I tell it "dial 724-555-5555" it will places the call perfectly fine. It just won't do it if it is pulling it from the phone book. I can also pick up the phone and manually select something from the phone book and it will place the call and the screen on the radio will read "Active call: John". I tried saying names firstname lastname and lastname firstname. If I say a non existent name, it tells me that there's no number for them. It ONLY does it if I say an existing name to call. Anyone see this? I've wiped and resetup my phone, repaired it countless times with nothing fixing it. It worked perfectly for the first few days I had the car! (got the car last week) Nothing changed on my phone!

Just re-rooted my Droid and upped to 2.3 myself. I had to delete the pairing and phone book from the car and re-do it, but I'm up and running fine after that. My guess is, something's out of sync.

Mine does the same thing (Droid X)... when I tell it to call my wife it does NOTHING! (I think there is a joke in here somewhere)

Haven't tried to delete phone from the system and reconnect it so that may work... gonna go try it... do any of you have some contacts that are linked to other profiles like their facebook page or something? I wonder if that may cause a problem?

It shouldn't cause a problem. According to the bluetooth transfer "activity" in the Android OS, a contact is a contact, doesn't matter where it originates. It's all in the phone-book that gets pushed to the Sonata.

Make sure Google Voice isn't set to ask which you'd like to use (voice or your phone company) for every call, if GV's installed.

You need to listen to her instructions, After pressing the button, the cmd is: CALL, she then comes back and asks, Say, By Name or By Number. Then if you say: By Name, she says Name Please. If that name has multiple numbers assigned to it, she will ask, Work, Mobile or whatever etc. If you don't do as she requests, you never will make a voice activated hands free call.

Garbage In, Garbage Out!!

Surprizes me that you can ROOT a Cell Phone but cant understand simple instructions Mate. LOL! No disrespect intended ofc.

According to the manual:

Direct Calling
➀ Press button.
➁ Sat the following command.
- Call <John> : Connects the call to John.
- Call <John> on <Mobile> : Connects
the call to John’s mobile phone number.
- Call <John> at <Home> : Connects
the call to john’s home number.
- Call <John> in <Office> : Connects
the call to John’s office number.

I say "Call Smith John on mobile" to call John Smith in the directory listing imported from my Droid X almost every day, without waiting for any prompts from the system.

Foolish_mortal is right. You don't have to break it out into individual commands. "Call john" will work if John is in your phone book. It just wouldn't work on my phone, no matter what. I flashed back to 2.2 and it worked. There is absolutely a bug in the particular Android ROM I was using. When she tried to pull the contact you spoke, it would hang forever. It wouldnt error and give up, it would just hang forever. Regardless, I fixed the problem permanently by getting an iPhone.

Have rooted multiple Androids and never had an issue, sorry you felt you had to go to iPhone. Do the the steps as Foolish said and it is minimal commands. But you also have to push the top button to do that, I think if you push the "2nd" button it asks alot more, say a command etc...

Yeah it was really weird. I think it was an issue with CM7, GB 2.3.3
