Complaints about ix 20?

Six months ago i bought my first Hyundai, the ix 20. Lovely car apart from some discrepancies.
The battery seems to charge at an extremely slow pace, because of this the automatic start-stop function has hardly functioned so far.
The trunk can only be closed by smashing it with all your force, cross your fingers the window won't crack... If the trunk isn't closed properly, apparently a tiny trunk light remains lit draining the -already weak- battery...
Sounds familiar to anyone?

I've not had any problems with ISG or the trunk (boot).

The main issues I have had:

- Steering Wheel leather starting to peel off (awaiting replacement)
- Drivers side electric window starting to go up very slowly. (According to my local dealer this has been reported by several other customers as well)

One annoying feature is the "fuel distance remaining", this will go to "---" when you get under 20 miles of fuel remaining.

Hi all,

According to the local dealer - and a pal of mine in the industry - in simple terms, safety and related systems come before fuel economy/ISG, so that is why the ISG doesnt work all of the time (yet the light/check sequence should identify that the system is functional/working).

Of course in the winter months when the vehicle's systems are under load (aircon, EHW, heater etc. etc.) the ISG will disengage.

Agree with the hatch-closing problem! Also applies to all doors except drivers. But I think it's mainly down to the cabin sealing as they all close much easier with a window or door open.
No ISG on the auto - great!
Has anyone noticed the panel fit, though? On mine the door/window lines don't match up with the surrounding panels, neither do the hatch, bumpers, horn button and more. Doesn't make any difference to the drive but I haven't seen this sort of fit & finish since the 70's! Have had a look round others at the dealers and they all seem the same.
Mine's 3 months old and the only real problem is the clunky FNS suspension (mentioned on another thread), which the dealer is now going to have another look at, apparently.

Oh yes, I agree it looks and drives OK. You'll note I said panel fit made no difference to the drive, but although you may have been lucky, it's a fact that various panels are inaccurately aligned on mine and others I've seen. As someone with an engineering background, it offends me - but that's just me! Generally I'm very pleased with this car - have a look at my review on the Car Survey site. If the dealer manages to cure the clunky FNS suspension it'll be perfect for my needs. Even if they don't I wouldn't be getting rid of it for that alone - it's not THAT bad.
It slightly rankles that I could've had a well-made Jazz for similar money. If only I'd found the Jazz more comfortable, quieter, better on the motorway, with a better auto-box, but I didn't! Also tried the Verso S, but preferred the IX20 even with its more 'budget' image. Every car has compromises, just depends which ones you can put up with, doesn't it?!

I see no benefit or value to ISG - pain in the proverbial (imo) and similarly the aircon turning on automatically (this is on all sorts of motors though) I'm a fairly intelligent, grown up person now and would like to choose whether I turn stuff on or off thank you.

Noticed the 'miles to go' flat line and start flashing today - would prefer it kept going down into single figures - was testing it today - had a can with me but bottled out at 26 miles ha ha!

Overall, impressed with my IX20 and like it a lot - no major gripes yet (touchwood)

Yes i have noticed that too MPW11 with the brakes but i think it has something to do with the Hill Assist. Works fine otherwise. With regard to earlier comments the fit and finish of my car is excellent far better than my previous ford. The doors closing are on a par with a BMW/Audi. My ISG works fine and when it should.

I think people are not used to the ISG system. I have had no problems at all. These kind of issues have also been raised with my friends car who has a new Audi. The key is to read the car manuals carefully. The reason i bought this car was its very roomy lots of features and very practical and very econimical, got 60mpg on my last refill, best i've ever got so far. Its 7 months old with 5000 miles. I am intrigued to hear from users who have issues as i'm planning on longterm ownership and only time will tell if they are really this good.

One other point as MPW11 mentioned earlier. When the fuel indicater flat lines you need to fill up as soon as possible. It said I had 30 miles left then suddenly flatlined, i left it for a couple of miles then filled the car. I actually filled slightly more than the tank can hold according to the reciept so i was running on fumes. BEWARE!!

People are use to the ISG, but apparently it doesn't work on some cars. I have just collected my ix20 from the main dealer after 6 weeks - it still does not work. Hyundai are now liaising with the main man in Korea. During the 4-5 months my car has been going in and out the dealers I have had several loan cars with STOP and GO! (alfa romeo, vauxhall corsa, etc) and all have worked perfectly.

Had mine for a year now, gave up on the ISG, hasnt worked properly since i had it, dealer said battery is not charged enough due to short trips, the only way i can get it to work is if i charge the battery to be over 80% required....
