MnSoft | Hyundai Map Update (CAN)

1. It started via this BLOG https://itnerd.wordpress.com/2016/06/22/i-now-have-android-auto-and-apple-carplay-in-my-2016-hyundai-tucson/
1. Chat with MapnSoft who cannot agree or deny that by updating to ver 10 will give you Carplay/AA in other models
1. Email to Hyundai - they replied back with the following
Thank you for contacting Hyundai Auto Canada. Hyundai Canada’s third-party navigation software provider, MnSOFT, chose to include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as value-added features for customers that purchase its map update for certain 2016-2017 Elantra GT and Tucson vehicles equipped with satellite navigation. There is no timeline for when or if the value-added features will be available for other models equipped with satellite navigation. The development and deployment of navigation software used by Hyundai vehicles is solely the responsibility of MnSOFT. The navigation software is developed and managed by a third-party supplier. Hyundai Canada provides the navigation software update as a pass-through cost to customers through Hyundai dealers. Customers may also purchase the update directly from MnSOFT. Our records show you have a 2015 Sonata; it is unfortunately unable to receive such an update. We apologize if this does not meet with your expectations. Do not hesitate to contact us with any other questions you may have. All the best,

So bottom line is - Contact MapnSoft requesting it to be build for your model. Its good business for them to do it, I would be happy to pay for Map Updates and AA/Carplay

I might just bite the bullet and buy the update from MapnSoft. It says that CP & AA are only available for the Elantra & Tucson on the site, but when you look at the map version after update number, they are all the same for the Sonata, Elantra, & Tucson. I can't see why they wouldn't have the same piece of software for all of their models that can take the v10 update.

I wouldn't bite the bullet just yet as the "software version" after update at the bottom of the page shows a different one for the Elantra GT and Tucson than the rest of the models.

I just wrote to MapnSoft like the OP suggested. I think the more people that inquire about it the better our chances are.

This is the last reply I got from Hyundai Canada below. I suggest everyone get in touch with them at cr@hyundaicanada.com and who knows, if there are enough requests they may do it..

Mr. ******,

Thank you for your reply.

At this time, Hyundai Auto Canada does not intend to make Apple CarPlay or Android Auto available with an update for any 2016 (or prior) model year vehicles. Do know that we have documented your suggestion as we make may changes based on customer feedback.

We apologize for any inconvenience this situation may cause you.

Feel free to reach us again at this email address or by phone at 1-888-216-2626.

All the best,

Mariah.

Good stuff, and for those in Canada would gladly pay for an update which comes with AA/Carplay which we have no chance of getting via Hyunda Co...its win win, and seriously how tough would it be for them to create it

About 10 days ago I wrote a very long email to "cr@hyundaicanada.com". I will spare you the email I wrote but I will just mention that I asked them politely to buy back my car since I don't want to be treated in an inferior fashion as my USA counterparts. I got this reply yesterday:

--------------------------------------
Dear Mr. Laplante,

Thank you for contacting Hyundai Auto Canada. We sincerely apologize for the delay in our response.

We are aware of the differences between Canadian and US vehicles and apologize for how upsetting this must be; we understand the frustration that comes from this situation. It does not seem fair for the US to have CarPlay and Android Auto readily available whereas in Canada we do not have such easy access. The actual hardware of US Hyundai vehicles compared to the Canadian vehicles is similar, however, the software systems running the display systems are very different, as they are manufactured for a separate market. At Hyundai Auto Canada we are not able to perform the update based on these fundamental differences.

To answer your first question: As we understand it, you have contacted Google and they informed you that individual manufacturers are responsible for the decision. However, based on the information we possess, Alphabet (a.k.a. Google) is solely responsible for the development of the core Android Auto software; just as Apple is solely responsible for the development of the core CarPlay software. While numerous announcements regarding Android Auto and Apple CarPlay have been made in the US, only selected 2017 model year Hyundai vehicles are equipped with the software in Canada and there are no factory-produced Hyundai vehicles in Canada that are equipped with Apple CarPlay. This decision is based on the fact that an update is not available due to the outlined software differences.

As for your second question, Hyundai Auto Canada does not have a procedure in place to buy back vehicles. As such we would not be able to provide compensation for your 2016 Sonata PHEV.

In regards to BlueLink, it will be available in the future, however there is no timeline for launch.

We understand that these may not be satisfactory responses. Please understand that this is Hyundai Auto Canada’s position on the concerns that you have brought to our attention.

We truly apologize for all inconveniences caused. Thank you for providing us the opportunity to review your queries. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions by e-mailing us at this address or by calling 1-888-216-2626.

Regards,

Mariah.

Like usual it's a very corporate response that doesn't really address the issue as to WHY and also they don't speak about the fact that the upgrade is available for Tucson and Elantra owners.

I just feel much better knowing that "We understand that these may not be satisfactory responses"...

I just hope that the thousands owners of 2016 compatible NAV system in Canada will realize that injustice and react. Unfortunately, money always speak louder than words in that industry.

My situation is more complex since the upgrade for my car is not available yet even to US owners but it will be available to them by the end of July from what I can read.

JF.

Write to Mapnsoft requesting it

HYUNDAI MNSOFT, Inc 2601 Main St. #920, Irvine, CA 92614

Askingit to be added in their new version for your car..if they can make for Tuscon which is not done bt Hyundai Corp, why not for other cars and its simple, if I were to upgrade my nav, I wouldnt pay for little features like few xtra roads etc but give me AA and Carplay, I will gladly buy the upgrade

Conversation
System: Welcome to web chat!
Ryan: Interaction alerting Ryan.
IC: Ryan has joined the conversation.
Ryan: hello doug, how may I help you?
Doug: Sorry, got disocnna again earlier
Doug: Ryan: the 2016 model does not inclued apple carplay either Ryan: did you have any other questions? Ryan: hello?
Ryan: yes, that is correct?
Doug: OK, so thats sad but is there any formal request I can make for this?
Ryan: not from us, you would need to contact the manufacturer
Doug: Hyundai Canada doesnt support Carplay either but your software added it so wouldn't the request be to you, since Hyundai already said no
Ryan: as far as i know, the application will be available for free from the manufacturer in the Fall
Doug: for Canadian cars?
Ryan: yes
Doug: We'll see, but all I wanted to say was if it were included for my car, I would gladly pay for Ver 10 right away
Ryan: did you have any other questions?
Doug: Its just that the Nav is same for Tuscon, Elantra, it could have been added with software to my model and many users would have paid for it since no sight of Android Auto or Carplay for Sonata 2015. I am not sure about the free option
Doug: Well, no thanks for your help. I am hoping you could add this as a request to your s/w developers
Ryan: i am sorry for the inconvenience, but our company has no control over that. that is up to the manufacturer
Ryan: we were told (by them) that the app will be offered for free in the fall to all vehicles
Doug: OK thanx

I picked up a new Elantra 2017 on July 4 with the hope that Hyundai Canada will be updating the software to include Apple Carplay (it already includes Android Auto).

Speaking with my salesperson, she said it should be coming, but like most people I've spoken with there's no date given. I've tweeted them, Facebooked them and I chatted with MnSoft directly:

Winston: Hello. For clarification on Apple Carplay please contact Hyundai Canada
Winston: Our next update is not expected to be released until this fall/winter and a list of features is not yet available
The frustrating thing for me is I'm not interested in MnSoft's nav software. Why would I be when I could be using Apple Maps via Carplay? All I need from MnSoft is the Carplay app. I imagine it would literally be a few MB's in size and would be like installing an app on a phone.

I do have a spare Android phone that I am now using with Android Auto and I have to say that it's very slick in operation.

I wonder how the SD card update from MnSoft is structured? Would it be possible to just install the Apple Carplay app?
