So I come out to the car to drive to work this morning, and soon as i approach the car and press the unlock button (keyless SE), i notice the display lights around the shifter are flickering on and off rapidly and the car wont unlock. took out the override key and manually unlocked her, got in, and no lights at all. put my foot on the break and nothing, cant start her at all. It seems i left the fog lights on (not the bumper fog lights, but those orange colorer lights if thats the right name for them). How in the world can those completely drain a battery in 15 hours (the amount of time the car was parked)??

Also as the car is in the garage facing the front of the garage (a single car garage) what would be the best way to jump it? Should i manaully unlock the shifter (how do i do that?) and put her into manual and roll it out of the garage? thats kinda a scary thought to me as my drive way is on an incline, and id have no breaking power other than the parking brake.

Invest in a jump pack. It is essentially a car battery in a plastic case w/ the jumper cables attached. You charge it once every 3-4 months and keep it in the trunk. If you battery ever dies, you just grab it and use it. no need for another car.

As for your predicament. There is a shift lock release button in front of the shifter. You need a flat head screwdriver or maybe the key will work. you will see a 1/2" by 1/2" square with a small slit. Use the screwdriver to pop that up. Then you will need put the screwdriver in the hole and press the lever. This will allow you shift into neutral. roll the car out backwards, brakes should still work but if not be prepared to stomp on the emergency brake.

This is best done with two people so one person can push the car out while one remains in the car while its in motion.

Good luck.

good idea, ill go to walmart and buy one over my lunch break (a coworker was gracious enough to offer to take me). Still it concerns me that low powered lights can 100% drain a car battery in half a day. Is that normal? Could I potentially have a bigger problem?

If you are worried, have a shop Load Test your battery. if the battery passes, then its fine. If there are other things draining the battery, then shut those off too. Most modern cars drain the battery when they are shut off. There is so much crap running as far as electronics. Many dealers say in 2-3 weeks their cars are all dead from sitting as they drain that fast.

Per the manual.

Battery saver function
• The purpose of this feature is to prevent
the battery from being discharged.
The system automatically
turns off the parking lights when the
driver removes the ignition key (smart
key : turns off the engine) and opens
the driver-side door.
• With this feature, the parking lights will
be turned off automatically if the driver
parks on the side of road at night.
If necessary, to keep the lights on
when the ignition key is removed
(smart key : turns off the engine), perform
the following:
1) Open the driver-side door.
2) Turn the parking lights OFF and ON
again using the light switch on the
steering column.

all the lights are controlled by the bcm, if the car is off and you leave the lights on they will eventually go off. the only exception is the dome lamps, if you have them turned on then thats the only light that can cause this.

then this is even more perplexing, as what could have drained the battery overnight then?

Have you tried checking the battery connections? Making sure the wires are making good contact, making sure they have no residue?
yep checked them when i jump started the car. No problems, everything was tight, no corrosion or residue. When jumping the car I nearly jumped into the engine when i connected the black wire to a ground, the horn went off! scared the living **** out of me. apparently the car doesnt like to be jump started.

[yep checked them when i jump started the car.]

Has anybody decided on the best Non-battery spot to Clamp the Neg Booster Cable to on our car.

The Mfg'ers adding a Grounded piece of metal under the hood that says "Neg Jumper Cable Here" makes too much sense, so I'm asking here.

I connected the negative jumpter to a bolt I saw about a foot behind the driver side headlight.

Did you call Hyundai roadside assistance? Comes with every Hyundai!
No i did not call them because if you read the information you get about it says you can only use them 2 times per year, after that you get charged for it. I dont want to waste a use on something I can do my self.

I would have called them. I have been driving more than 35 years. I needed towing two times. Once my Pontiac Sunbird could not make it up an ice covered driveway and I slid into the ditch. The other time, I had an accident and needed to be towed. I think you would have been alright using one of your two freebies especially since you seemed to be so unsure of how to proceed with the situation you foumd yourself in that you felt the need to poston here for solutions.

So the dealer service department took her in this morning, ran test on the lights (to insure they were automatically shutting off), checked the batter, battery amperage/voltage (fully charged, read perfectly like a new battery, which makes no sence if it was completely dead 2 days ago...) checked the alternator, wiring, and connected some computer to the car to check for something. They found nothing wrong and are baffled by what happened. They adviced me to drive her normal and if it happens again to call them directly and they will send someone to my house to see it in person and figure out what is going on.

So you'll miss work again if this happens during the week? I would have told them to be ready to deliver a loaner to my house.
