Hello,
Just bought a new 2011 Sonata! Very glad to have found your forum. Have a couple questions...

1. What is the best HID kit for the sonata? I have heard Shark and Xenon Supply...any other brands (perhaps that I can purchase on Amazon) that I should know about? I don't have fog lights so either LED or HID fog light suggesstions would be great too!

1a. Do I need the premium/slim - what options are the best for me for the HID lights?!

2. What is the best oil change interval using synthetic oil?

The manual calls for 7500 but my dealer said every 5k is a safe bet, So I do mine every 5k miles.

I have a 8000k HID kit on mine, but I am about to change to a 6000k Digital Slim Kit soon, the company I ordered mine through is sending me one due to an issue I am having with my current kit, so they are just sending me a upgraded kit under warranty. I am not sure of slim kits are better or not.

Hey man I got my kit from Xenon Supply. I recommend their kit and their tech support is very helpful too. I would go with the 6000K lights. I would pay an extra 20 bucks and get the premium slim ballast. Its much smaller than the regular ballast.

Also consider getting the shark racing LED DRL lights. I have them on my car. It looks sick.. There are a bunch of forums on here with the title SR LED DRL.. so look it up before you buy it. Hope that helps. and congrats on a great buy!!

i had previously purchased a kit off of ebay what a waste of money didnt last 6 months...after 2 weels one of the bulbs went bad trust me i learned from my mistake just go with xenon supply not only are the kits good quality but the modified bulbs do make a huge difference i went with the 4300k kit and premiuim slim ballast

Question - where is the best place to get fog lights if u didn't get them oem?
You can buy a kit from Shark Racing that has everything you need to add them to the GLS. It's not too expensive either.

Most HID discussions get around to the RISK you take in NOT getting a Relay Harness (wired to Battery) to Isolate the car's electrical system from this Pkg, so research this issue before Ordering.

For all of the reasons given to get the harness / NOT get the harness most feel the extra $20 is nothing compared to the rare glitch that Fries the Expensive Electronic Module that has cost an HID mod'er or two $$$$.

Hyundai Sonata HID Kit | Xenon Lights

^ That is your best option. XenonSupply has the best products. I had a terrible eBay kit originally that stopped working whenever I took my car through the car wash. Had the XenonSupply kit for months now with 0 problems. They're great.

Look at 4300K or 6000K for the best lighting. I have 8000K which still gives out great light, but thats because I was leaning more towards looks. I might even switch to 6000K soon. 4300K is completely OEM color, just more brightness vs. halogen bulbs, whereas 6000K is more brightness and it gives off a nice pure white effect (6000K has a bit of blue which is not noticed at all during night-time driving because of our projectors in the headlights).

You don't need to get the premium ballasts; I have the normal ones. They're just as efficient. Also, don't forget to get the "Accessory Relay Wiring Harness" for $15.00. This takes the start-up draw directly from your battery instead of your lighting system, which prevents the fuse box from being blown. $700 part + labor. I've had that happen to me.

Sorry can't really help on the oil intervals since thats not my expertise lol.

Hope I helped!

did you install your wiring harness and if so where did you tuck it away at and how did you keep it there.. at first i put the harness on but didnt like the look and afraid it would drop down and get into the engine compartment.. oh and by the way i was following xs how to do video

After installing my XS kit, I would say they were pretty thoughtful in what they include and their video.

I must say I used the video because I couldn't remember how to remove the halogen bulb. LOL @myself.

My only complaint (and its a ticky tack type complaint) would be about another foot of wire for the driver side components as the way I routed my wires was slightly different than what the video suggests as I ran my ground to the major ground bolts in the area. The driver was the battery ground on the bottom near the ballast. The passenger was the bolt in the fender.

Only driven a bit but I like the better color, but I have suspected this even with the halogen is that the lights are just aimed low.

EDIT: On mine, I used outdoor double sided tape to mount the relay just above the headlamp assembly and then snake the passenger feed between the top of the radiator and radiator support. I then was able to snake the connectors through some holes in the headlight lamp support so less wire would be visible. Over all its cake.

There was a guy before who did this mod by simply plugging the positive wire of the led strip to the fusebox then the negative wire to the car chassis. Here's the pics... HTH.

Use a spare fuse to hold the positive wire into the empty slot in the fuse box. ^_^

Looks great...yeah man....switch out those fogs for some LED's :D ... it never ends, does it?

For me personally, I am sticking with my highs just the way they are. I know many of the guys here change their highs out to LEDs but at this point I'm going to hold off on that. Though I have HIDs in my lows, my highs are still aimed higher and are effective at distance more so than the lows. For me, it's the fogs I'm getting to change out to match the color of the lows (6000K)

Yea, I hear ya. I want to swap the lows and fogs out with HIDs to match, then was figuring I would change out the drls with white halogen or LEDs since I want to get rid of the yellowish look and I've seen many posts saying highs are unneccesary when running HID lows.
I'm leaning toward xenon supply HID 6k lows, don't know about the fogs yet. Just noticed xenon supply makes them as well so maybe I'll keep with them. What fogs are you going to get?

I'm using 6k hid's from xenon supply for my lows and I just ordered Osram Rallye 65w Ultra High Output H7 Special-Service Bulbs for my highs

Osram Rallye 65w Ultra High Output H7 Special-Service Bulb
I would be a little concerned personally of replacing the OEM powered bulb (55W) with something of a higher wattage and potentially using a bulb not designed or certified for on road use. Excessive heat could also be a concern.
