Anyone stall their car while changing gears before with ISG on?

I noticed the car engine (2.5L smartstream, non turbo) can stall when changing gears (D to R) with ISG active. particularly during parallel parking.

So I'll drive to a stop, ISG kicks in, and the engine revs are going down. When the tachometer is going to down to zero due to ISG, BUT NOT YET ZERO, and I press reverse the engine has a hard time picking up revs, and it had stalled on me once-(went to park).

Pretty confused why the engine's having a hard time reversing while the engine revs are non-zero- maybe the reverse gear has more teeth than first gear? Anyone have any comments?

I have no problems when the engine revs drops to a complete zero and then reversing.

EDIT: wording

All the manual transmission cars I owned, the reverse start required better clutch skill, very evident on an incline. It might be the same on DCT?

That is the reason I switch off ISG during parking maneuver, those ON/OFF cycles got to be bad for the starter lol. The symptom might go away eventually if the new ISG is as good as the 2019/2020!

Yeah that can be a possibility, but I'm like 95% sure non-turbo sante fe's such as mine have traditional automatic transmissions. Heck, when I was reversing it was a slight downslope so there shouldn't be any load on the engine!

Just gotta get into the groove of disabling ISG before reversing I guess.

I've owned several cars with the auto start-stop feature, and you had to manually shut it off every time on all of them. I think the automakers are required to default to this feature being on because the EPA ratings are determined with the feature enabled.

I don't think they can add an easy disable, but I do think the programming could maybe be a bit better. Same with the manual shift mode returning to automatic by itself and not allowing starts from a stop in manual mode. It's those little things.

Huh? The 2019/2020 Santa Fe’s starts off just fine in manual mode. And just a tap on the paddle in the 2021/2022 models will put you in manual mode. Launch in first and use the paddle to shift to second.

But if you’re questioning why you can’t start in 2nd, 3rd or higher gears, well, just think of it as “idiot proofing.”

OP, are you describing the ISG stopping the engine when you come to a full stop, before you do a parallel parking maneuver, as “stalling?”

2019 non-turbo, I've never had it stall out, but a few times I've let off the brake just as ISG was activating, and it stumbled a bit and gave me a very angry beeeeeep noise.

I usually just shut off ISG right after starting the car now.
