Spoiler

I got mine from PowerAXEL through this forum. Unfortunately it's just been too cold to put it on lately :(

PS: I was going to go with that spoiler and wing king place too until I googled it and read some reviews...I'd recommend staying away from them.
I hear you, there are some bad reviews. But, one person has the same post on a half dozen sites. All it takes is one angry customer...

I've seen as many posts saying people were very happy with the product. I guess a 50/50 split doesn't exactly inspire confidence, but I decided to give it a go. I plan to install with 3M tape vs. drilling holes, so it won't be the end of the world if it doesn't work out. Keeping my fingers crossed.

In Canada the price is 400$ painted & installed.
Ooof.... That's quite expensive. South of the border (USA), the sticker price was only $250 when I purchased the car with it installed at the POI (i.e., the factory, I think); I bought it less than a month ago.

I paid for a SR OEM Type of spoiler, but they are on "indefinite back-order", so I opted for the type B at no additional cost. I'm having it shipped white and having my body shop paint and install it professionally. I also ordered the Mobis molded mud guards and the Hybrid emblem for the front. Everything should be here by the end of next week or so...

spoiler

I asked Wing King if they sell a drill-less version and they said they don't , but that they've had plenty of customers simply use 3M tape and do it that way. That is what I have in mind - I just can't bring myself to drill a hole in my brand new car...

I'm def not an expert, but wonder what difference a drilled vs. drill-less spoiler design would have besides double sided tape for drill-less and holes/hardware for drilled?

If you are serious about installing the spoiler do it the right way by drilling holes. You may get away with just the two sided tape but you may not (meaning the spoiler may come off). And when or if that happens, it may cause some damage to the car and/or the spoiler.

3M tape holding a 3 oz emblem is different than holding a 5 pound spoiler on, against winds, at speed ...

had my drilled at bodyshop

With that spoiler being a few pounds tops, Icant see it coming off if it has 3M tape from end to end.

If it was a larger spoiler with some sort of rise to it, I could see the concern for sure, but with a small lip spoiler there is nothing for it to catch on, and the weight is minimal, so I wouldnt worry. Not to mention, there will be no airflow under the spoiler causing an upforce to seperate the tape. the wind going over it shouldnt be much of a concern.

I would however spend a few bucks and buy th extra thin 3M tape, and not use the thick spongy stuff that is usually supplied with spoilers, etc.

I am not saying here is anything wrong with drilling it either, it is the better method. I am just saying I personally would have no fear using 3M adhesive tape for it. Just make sure you clean each side very good. I would recommend using dawn dishsoap to remove any wax residues that may interfere with adhesion. I would also do it on a warm, sunny dayif I were using 3M tape!

If you did want to drill it, it should come w a template and if not i would make one to mark your holes. and make sure you have touch up paint to paint over the hole edges on all sides to prevent future rusting.

Spoiler

Rec'd my lip spoiler from Spoiler and Wing King yesterday. Paint match looks perfect. Paid $112 delivered. Had a local bodyshop install it (drilled/bolted) for $50.

The fitment isn't perfect; the bottom/underside of the spoiler has slight (1/8 inch?) gaps on both sides. Kind of looks like the underside of the spoiler has a slightly sharper arc than the trunk lid. Can't see it unless you open the trunk and look for it. Maybe it's normal; can't say I've ever inspected the underside of a rear spoiler before...

All in all, I'm very satisfied with the buying process and finished product. To me, it was a great addition for very little $. As of now, I'd highly recommend them to anyone considering a spoiler.

I bought my spoiler from CarID. Had it prepainted with the guarantee to match. Around $90.00 unpainted and $ 170.00 painted at the time I bought it. Put it on myself. Three holes in trunk lid on each side to attach with bolts.

This is off-topic but the car will probably look nicer with chrome window moldings to match your pillar moldings. Just my 2 cents... ;)

I just picked up my 2.4 SE last night. (Very Excited!!) Before purchase I was planning to buy a wing spoiler like the one offered on carid.com. The car that I ended up getting had a lip spoiler already installed. I told the dealer that I was planning to get a wing spoiler so I wanted one without the lip spoiler, but they didn't have one in my color without it. So he gave me credit for the spoiler (free to me) and I bought it with the lip spoiler already in place.

I will probably look into removing the lip spoiler and replacing it with a wing spoiler. But for now it's there and I'm going to leave it that way until I make up my mind and/or have money for the wing spoiler.

Here are a couple of pics of the lip spoiler that was already installed.

I went through the same process - tape it or drill it? One post suggested I'd wish I had drilled it if it flies off and hits another car while I'm tooling down the freeway. Kinda made sense... Then I started thinking that manufacturers have been drilling their spoilers for many years, and I've never seen any issues on those cars (related to the spoiler installation).

That kind of answered my question, and I paid a local bodyshop $50 to drill it. I started to ask whether they deburr and apply touch up, but the estimator answered my question before I got it out. It seemed they knew what they were doing, so I was comfortable with them doing the install.

Funny thing, though; when Spoiler and Wing King told me I could use tape, they also say the spoiler is designed to be mounted with screws (legal CYA?). If you have a problem, I suspect they'll point to improper installation as the cause. But, what are the odds of having a problem? Probably very, very slim...
