We just put a set of 205/40Z17 Falken ZIEX ZE-912 on the car, I was going around a hairpin turn, Rated at 30MPH and i was clipping close to 65mph when i went into it. I hit a small crack in the pave and it made the back of the car "hop" and it broke loose and slide, I was able to keep the car under control to recover it.(Made some smoke from the back tires:whistling: ), I've taking that corner at that speed before with a Protege with 205/50z16 and NEVER had that problem.

Well I theorised the whole thing. With 185/65r14s your have chunky side wall tires and gives the car "roll" so when doing sharp corners the sideways motion is turned into "roll" of the tires, with some bouncing yet not much sliding. With 205/40z17s there is about an inch of rubber for sidewall. So when doind a sharp corner the sideways motion has nowhere to go since the tires can't roll as much so it creates less traction on the back and once you hit a dip or a bump it makes the car slide more . make any sense?

I got really good at "drifting" before so when it slide out it was second nature lol. However instead of recovering right away i kinna made the slide a but longer for show lol. When i went to the tune shop this morning and asked them they told me it will happen if you push the tires to the max since they can't roll sideways

take a trip to Japan to learn proper technique of drifting

this is how i do it left turn corner flick the steering to the right and flick it back to the left quickly pull handbrake and release and full throttle and control the slide with proper oppisite lock and right amount of throttle to keep it going

yes.

I dont know how much the 14" steelies + tires weigh, but if the 17"s weigh more, that is more weight the suspension is trying to control and keep in contact with the pavement. if they are a few pounds heavier thats more work for the suspension and could be another reason for the wheel hop you describe when you hit bumps.

you should have a lot more precise traction with the 205 width 17's though up until you hit that bump though.

I find the weight less, The tires only weight about 5lbs if that. and the rims are only 15lbs. They weight alot less then the 14s

Slip angle is your "problem". Not really a problem, just that you changed the dynamics of your car when you went to low-pro tires.
