Hi, I am a 2016 1.6T Limited Tucson owner. I really like my Tucson. However, the well known DCT problem is kinda thing that i think my car has acquired after dealership updated software. I did not have any issue with DCT before. I remember dealership did update my software for transmission issue about 5 months back but that was part of recall. But after that, I came across that problem 3-4 times. It was like the when you throttle car from stand still, it would build up engine rpm up to 3000 but i would move very very slow on road as if like transmission is not engaged at all or may be in a wrong gear! I have my car service appointment next week and i am gonna talk to dealer about it but don't know what to expect on it. I know there are many threads on this forum for this issue. but all i want to know if is there any final solution to it that Hyundai has come up with yet? sounds like, it was all going well and they decided to upgrade software that my Tucson did not like..

There was a PCM and a TCU update. Did you get both completed?

No issues with mine since day 1.

Final solution is to trade it in for a Kia Sportage with the non-dct good ol' reliable 6-speed auto with the 2.4GDI or 2.0T

I am finding that a few dingle dongers aint doing both update as called out in the instructions... they supposed to do the *413 engine and *414 transmission updates as a set.. THEN run the full fault code search and clear all DTC set while programing...... I have had them show up with only the 414 trans update done, and DTC's still in modules

Send me VIN, let me see if I can find it on Hyundai "E-Report" off GDS...

Had 1 that come here, Service Mgr handed it to me, as it was a "problem car".. found 413 for engine was not installed, and as a BONUS,,,, I did the 2 step calibation in Software Managment so I could say I went through all of it and it was up to date via GDS prints of work done and completed

Are you in the united states?? The best transmission software update was on November 14th 2016, so if you got it updated after that, you should be fine. If your update was before that, as part of the recall, then you don't have the latest code.

first of all I know that there are 5 official DCT updates in the EU. People really get sick with Czech made assembling.

I did only one first update earlier 2016 and seems my DCT works just fine. Full kickdown on Eco and car goes straight to the line, no any jerking, kicking gears etc...So no complains whatsoever, I like how it works. However didn't it try on Sport and Normal yet.

Out of curiosity - what does the DCT have in common with the Czech manufacturing plant?

IMHO the DCT firmware is done in Korea.

We have the latest firmware and the car sucks as never before. It shows the "dead" moments twice a week, especially when the engine is cold. It never did it before so frequently...

Have another dealer check your car for the required updates to see if they were installed. Also don't do rolling stops the computer seems to get confused as to what gear to be in, and don't creep to much when in traffic.

I sent an email to Hyundai and someone called me back. I explained what the car does that seems unsafe. They don't care!!

More people need to complain and put pressure on Hyundai. Maybe more lawyers need to get involved.

There is a 2 step clutch calibration procedure that silly Hyundai dont call out to be done along with updates so we can say we know ROM is current, and we have done calibration and "completed" per Hyundai operation

You all kill me...

Hyundai has all current updates,, verify both engine and transmission programs installed..

THEN finish it with the DCT LEARN .......

PRINT THIS OUT,, and have "SMART" dealer fella verify all installed and calibrated using GDS

What is all this mumbo jumbo from sbr711???

He’s a Hyundai tech and is trying to help you. He gave you the info you need to review with your dealer to be sure the updates were installed correctly. He’s seen cases where the update process was not done correctly or not completed.

Hope your dealer can help you.

I understand there's an official Hyundai beta testing program underway with the DCT to determine precisely how it should be set up for safe and effective operation. Program participants are selected randomly and anonymously from out of the Tucson customer base. The program began in the 2016 model year and was extended for 2017. It may well take another couple years to produce definitive results.

DCT issue 2017 Tucson SE 5000km

I can't believe i didn't do my homework now i am stuck with an issue, going to the dealer tomorrow again, the SUV just revs and doesn't accelerate it happens randomly ...

The first time they claim they drove it 200 km and couldn't recreate the problem cause there was no code, now i have the check engine light on after an event....

i have been in contact with Hyundai Canada not sure what is going to come out of that.

Hi, can you please send check if my VIN has had the DCT updates installed? We've had it into the dealer twice for the hesitation off the line issues but we still have problems. Thanks! KM8J3CA27HU305556

ken, dont know if I have addressed yours or not, I am running around like chicken with no head here for bit.

I see nothing beyond 1 of the first update a yr ago,, there is newer material out that dealer should ideally follow up and check to actually verify all up to date with current version of engine AND transmission software... they will need to plug in GDS and actually go to ECU UPDATE,, select module (engine & transmission) and see if it offer up anything to install...

After install,, they should go to SOFTWARE MANAGEMENT for DCT, and do the Learn process (2 step calibration) for clutch

Geoff, I show a 2016 claim, and a Jan 2017 claim.. Need to know what is entered on that receipt - invoice for text and claim codes.. ROM ID for PCM and TCM help, but they aint likely going to plug in and print that for you.. can ask though

Good Afternoon.
I am considering purchase of a 2016 Tucson Limited and concerned about all these issues with the DCT.
I notice SBR711 is quite knowledgeable about these issues.
Can you tell me if the updates as you have listed in this thread will make the DCT operate properly or will these require something in a period of time?
Is there any news regarding Hyundai replacing the units or is this solely a software issue?
Lastly I have run the VIN of the vehicle I am considering through Hyundai website and noticed the TCM update was completed Oct 24, 16. there was mention of Nov 14, 16 being a date of new updates. is this accurate?
VIN is KM8J33A22GU025218

Thank you to all who have input especially SBR711 if you have a minute to answer.

At this moment in time,, Hyundai Motor reflects an open recall for T1B (engine AND transmission update) make sure they complete each update,, and ask that they do the LEARN procedure in Software Management for the clutch, and you would like print of screen reflecting 2 step procedure complete,,,, or you will "nuke" their survey

Happy New Year and welcome to the mad hou... forum!

I don't have access to search VINs, but the first update is "Recall #149" for the engine, announced toward the end of 2016; Mine was updated 10/31/2016. The second update is the "T1B Campaign" for the transmission, announced late-2016 or early-2017; Mine was updated 01/25/2017.

A DCT may not be best for everyone. It helps to have experience driving a vehicle with a manual transmission and treat the DCT as a MT that is shifted automatically by the computer. It is not a conventional automatic transmission with a torque converter.

Mine works fine after those two updates.

Good luck.

Thank you for your information RosemontCrest.
Were you having any issues with the DCT prior to the updates?
I currently drive a 6 speed MT Volkswagen so understand the MT driving.
The Tucson I am looking has seems to have a "stutter or vibration if you will" when starting from a complete stop. I understand the lag it has at times while cruising and wanting to accelerate and am more concerned about the stutter feel.

Thank you again

Were you having any issues with the DCT prior to the updates?
Yes. Despite having experience using a MT, I didn't notice it until after several months. Recall #149 helped just little bit, but its effect seemed to have faded. After installation of the T1B Campaign update, mine works fine.

The Tucson I am looking has seems to have a "stutter or vibration if you will" when starting from a complete stop.
It may not have the recent updates installed.

Thank you SBR711.
I have printed the screen shots you posted to present to dealer and request the 2 step procedure.
In you opinion do these procedures as you outline "cure" the issues everyone seems to have?
And do you have a different means of looking at the updates done other than what I have hound on Hyundai website?

Thanks again. I like this truck I have found just very concerned about this issue.
