Android Auto Split Screen (After April 2022 update)

I was really looking forward to see Android Auto in full screen (just like CarPlay has been forever...).
But...

While the Android Auto now occupies the entire screen, it is split between a main app and a secondary app and I see no way of changing it to a single app view.
To clarify, the setting under "Phone Projection" in the main console is set to NOT allow spilt screen and toggling it on and off only changes the split screen interaction of AA with the main console, not the split screen inside the AA environment.

In my case, I always like to have the map (Waze) use the entire screen, but since the display is showing me the radio section on the right side, it really doesn't change much the issue that was happening before the update, where you saw the Android Auto logo on the right side and the actual nav app was only visible on 65% of the screen.

In Carplay, you can toggle between layouts and choose to see either a full screen of a single app or a split screen of 3 apps.

Am I missing such an option/setting in AA?
I looked everywhere......
Just want the nav app to fill the entire screen...Is that too much to ask???

What you are seeing is the AA widescreen interface. This is what AA looks like on screens that offer sufficient horizontal pixels of space.

If you really want to, you can go into AA developer settings and reduce resolution to a max of 1280 pixels wide. That will force AA to revert to the classic look, allowing a single app to take up the full screen. But realize you’re taking a resolution hit… you’re now only displaying 1280 pixels across on a screen that will do 1920.

I made a video about AA on Hyundai/Kias with the new update using my Telluride. AA stuff starts at about 2:47.
