A few months ago when I tried to make a hands free call (I have wireless android auto) the system kept repeating, who do you want to call... over and over... Then by itself it stopped and started working. I press the button on the steering wheel to make a call and say, Call so and so it did. Now it has stopped again... no matter what i try it won't work. If I am in the house and I say, Hey Google call so and so, it works just fine. So it recognizes my voice and contact list. It still recognizes in the car if I want to navigate using google maps handsfree. If I say dial a number it works. It just won't recognize a name on the contact list. It will keep repeating, who do you want to call.

I have unpaired the phone both from the car and under bluetooth connections on the phone. I have cleared the cache, restarted the phone. I am beginning to think the car itself is having a problem understanding what I am saying. Anyone else had this problem? I don't know what else to do besides take it back to dealer.

Thanks for any assistance

Two things. First you can easily see if the contact list is being recognized by looking for the symbol in the upper right hand corner of the infotainment system screen next to the cellular symbol. Can you see it circuling after the phone connects then show the contacts have downloaded.

Second did you download the June update that specifically addresses connections to mobile phones at the myHyundai site?

Thanks for the reply. No I haven't downloaded the June update. It was working just fine for almost 2 years and then when I would say, Call Jack, it would keep repeating, who do you want to call? I could pop up the contacts on the display and call from there. It did this for a few weeks and without making any changes it started working again. Now a few days ago it started this problem all over again. Not sure if it is android auto that's the problem, the phone or the Tucson itself. When the phone is not connected to the bluetooth in the car I can say to the phone, Hey Google, call Jack and the call is made. So I guess it's not the phone itself. I have to take the car inf or an oil change soon so I will have them look at it. Any more suggestions I would be most appreciative. Thanks again for your help

Additional thoughts, and apologies in advance if the behavior in our '22 Santa Fe hybrid limited differs from that of your Tuscon.

If you are doing a short press of the voice recognition button you are activating the in-vehicle system and it would be necessary for the car to have access to your contact list, as @Tampa8 references. After you went through the process of removing the BT connection to your phone and adding it back, I think you need to again grant permission for the vehicle to access your contacts and messages lists. Did you do that?

You mention you have no issues placing a call by saying "Hey Google". That verifies obviously you can place a call using Android's voice recognition system. When in the vehicle and connected via BT or Android Auto you can perform a similar step by long-pressing the voice recognition button on the steering wheel. The long-press invokes your Google Assistant, the same as saying, "Hey Google". So, if you still are unable to figure out what is going on with the in-vehicle voice recognition system and your contact list you should be able to just use Google's by using the long-press of the button.

Thanks for your reply. I wrote this as my problem but it's my girlfriend's Tucson. She has done the long press and when she says, call "so and so" it repeats who do you want to call? She can pop up her contacts list and make a call by pressing their name. So the car has her contacts list. She has a 2022 Tucson SEL. Her car connections wireless to android auto when she starts the car. I have a 2022 Tucson hybrid limited so I know I have both built-in and can use android auto to make calls. We tried turning off wi-fi on her phone so her car won't connect to android auto to use the built-in calling. But the Tucson automatically turns wi-fi back on so we can't really isolate it. Thanks again for your help. If you have any ideas I would like to hear them.
