I'm thinking of buying a Tuscon with the 2.4l engine and was wondering what they were like in the winter for warming up and staying warm, or if they lost heat quickly when idling etc. We've had -40 here so having a good winter vehicle is definitely part of the consideration when buying a new vehicle.

My tucson AWD gets great fuel economy. But is really bad for staying warm in winter, unless you drive all highway.

If you want AWD without the fuel penalty, Subaru is the way to go. With their longitudinal engine and transmission layout, there are less bends for the AWD system to work through. The fuel economy is excellent, rivalling many FWD vehicles, but with having AWD.
