Hey,

We have some major issues with our i40. Been to the shop 2 times in less than 2 weeks, and Hyundai cant figure it out.

When we try to start the engine it goes from Off to Acc, lights, radio, ac, everything works, but when pushed again, it goes to off.

Tried putting it in free (N for you americans ;)) , hold brake and start. Putting it in gear with both clutch and brake, pushing start, goes to off again.

Display just tells us to push down clutch pedal, and yes, I do. Brake pedal is hard as a rock after this many attempts.

It's a manual btw.

Hyundai have changed our battery (which was fine) and checked clutch with no issues. The car can be broken for a week, then work for a day or two again.

Please, anyone have any tips or have seen this, help :)

are you saying it says depress clutch all the time when you try to start?

Silly i know but have you tried moving your battery leads to see if one is loose, i had to squeeze the positive together tight bolt but lead loose

Have you tried to move the battery terminals to see if they are loose, mine the nut was tight but the terminal you could spin on the positive, clamped it together then tightend the bolt, all ok now

Hi, I've just recently experienced the exact same problem but with an auto. I've tried all the little starting tricks such as key fob battery change, holding start button down with and without brake pedal, disconnecting main battery and charging overnight, using shift lock release to move transmission and wiggle in each position, replaced brake switch (brake lights work), replaced with new genuine ignition steering lock (au$1400), finally towed to nearest dealer an hour away (au$300) who replaced push button starter (au$300) with no luck and now want to replace 'Module Assembly Smart Key' at a
cost of au$1200. Did you end up having the issue rectified and, if so, what was the issue please. Cheers.
