simplysolid, this thread is a great idea and should be stickied.

Yeah, kinda sucks that original post cannot be edited. Perhaps an option is to PM changes to John_Pare who is the Senior Mod, and he can modify the original post.

Someone know the exact color temp of the OEM HID Low beam (D3S)
Colour temp is 4300, which most are. This was confirmed by retrofitsource.com when I contacted them about matching HIDs for the fogs (have abandoned that idea BTW).

I installed this kit today... Wow! what a difference, the lights are very bright, much more that the single led bulb replacement I had in my past car. The fitement is perfect, and beautifull 6000k color temp :):)

I opened and checked some bulb light number too (Canadian model with HID and the front white LED..) :

Front Turn Signal/Side-marker: PY28W? They are NOT the same bulb.
-Front Turn Signal is a 2357 dual filament bulb (why dual I dont know)
-Side-marker (orange reflector on the side) is a W5W (bulb is marked 221, same thing than 194..) bulb

Front position lamp: The whit led bar

License plate: W5W - (22G original, same 194..)

Does anyone know if this is the type of bulb I need for my license plate lights?

2 PCS Xenon White Wedge T10 20 SMD LED Light Bulbs W5W 2825 158 192 168 194 12V | eBay

I want to replace the stock ones with white LED similar to Lexus or BMW :)
I hope so 'cause I picked up something very similar. :) Still waiting for them to arrive so cannot confirm though.

I was actually going to get the LED you're considering, but when I saw the picture in the auction of how bright they were on the white Audi, I decided to go with a set that had less LED chips. I don't want it super bright...just want it to illuminate the plate, but with a light that is "whiter" than the current bulb. So, I went with the ones in the link below. I figure, for the $2, even if wrong, no great loss. Downside is shipping time.

Just installed mine. Arrived pretty quickly.

Just like you said, the driver side is a little bit of a pain as it doesn't just pop out. A very small flat head screw driver came to save me. Just look at the passenger side when it comes off and then it's easy to figure out how to get the driver's side out.

Right now it's very sunny so can't see how bright it is/isn't but tonight I'll take a look and try to take a picture and post here so others see what they could have should they choose to buy from same seller. The product seemed nice and as you noticed, much bigger than original bulb so perhaps anything bigger would not fit in there.

Looks great!! I haven't checked mine out in pitch black yet...just in my garage. I think yours might be brighter. Mentioned the fact that mine were less bright than stock to the seller, and he offered to send me a smaller LED but with 20 SMD at no charge!! So, I ended up buying an LED unit for my cargo area from him right afterwards.

I'll try to snap a picture of the floor behind my car next time, it's for sure considerably brighter than stock, I was afraid it might be a little too bright but it's ok, I guess just because it's angled towards the back some light bleeds onto the street and not just on the plate. I guess if I had to do it over and it was the exact same SMD chips I'd probably go with the 5 SMDs one being that the one I got with 9 is very powerful. I'd have a spaceship if I had gotten that one with 20 SMD I was about to buy, LOL

Can anyone suggest just a replacement bulb that could give the white effect of HID but without doing the conversion?
Not really doable... because white light from halogen would require the bulbs to be tinted blue and that would reduce a lot the amount of light you get on the road. So if you want to do that you'd have to live with the fact that you get really crappy light output from your headlights. I say either go with HID or live with the old school halogen :(

There are a bunch of reputable places that you can order from online, but some will tack on duties/taxes (ie. Tire Rack, reputable, but pricey).

PIAAlights

I usually pick mine up at Action Car and Truck Accessories up in Aurora. All depends on which end of the city you're from. Nextmod in Markham probably carries PIAA as well. They're also available at P.I. in the west end, and Precision in Concord.
