2012 Sonata Remote Start Kit And Blue Link

Does anyone know if the "factory" remote start kit (P/N 3S056AD00) will enable a 2012 Sonata GLS to remote start via the web and cellphone Blue Link apps.

Salesman left me with impression that Blue Link remote start worked as is when I purchased the vehicle 2 days ago. I wanted to get some intelligence on this before going back to see him. Now I am not certain if it should work but does not (other complaints on forum and phone app ratings), I need to purchase the remote start kit, or it is a "non-starter" (shameless pun) on GLS model.

Anybody out there been down this road?

Blue link remote start isnt available yet. From talking with them it is expected this fall. They do say that for the bluelink remote start to work on a vehicle it MUST have push to start button. I believe the GLS is key start. I dont know enough about the remote start they offer to add but I have seen it. And from what Ive seen it is not available for Sonatas that have the smart key (which are the ones with a push button start). It seems like they are kind of exclusive to each other, GLS can only use the factory remote start and push buttons Sonatas can only use Blue link remote start when available. The only way to know definitely would be to wait until the blue link remote start is available and see if it works with one but from them saying it will only work on push button start cars I would guess it wont.

Yes it does

Hi,

I just bought a 2012 Sonata and it comes witht eh BlueLink remote start. I have an Android Phone and you can download an APP that allows you to start the car, lock/unlock the doors, turn the lights on & off. It works GREAT.

Now what I don;t like is to use it you HAVE TO purchase the Essentials Package for $179.00/year. if you don't, you CAN'T use remote start. The other thing is, there is NO other way to start the car, like Using the remote.

I wanted my wife to be able to use the remote start while I was out. She doesn't have a smart phone. I was told you can Call Blueling or use your app to remote start, but you can't used the remote. I FIND THAT EXTREMELY HARD to believe that Hyundai would force you to pay a monthly fee to remote start your car.

If anyone knows of a way, other then buying a new remote start kit & disabling this one?
Which doesn;t make any sense either.

Thanks
Father Lenny

So your saying .....with the app....when you push the remote start on the app on your phone the car starts?!?!?

mine simply says that my "car is not supported". Yet horn, lights, and locks work.

Yes it works...BUT!

I just picked up my new 2012 Sonata today.

Now, I have a Motorola Driod Original and it would not start teh car. Everything else worked, just not teh start. When I called Hyundai to complain, they told me it will ONLY start if you are using a Droid-X.

A Droid is a Droid & they ALL uses the same OS and should ALL work the same, but I figured I'd call a friend of mine who lives nearly an hour away. he does have a Droid-X. He downloaded the App and I gacve him my login inof and sure enough, it took about 1-1/2 minutes, but the **** thing started for him, 60 miles away from the car. And he could tell me right where my car was.

I don't understand why you have to have a specific Droid-X, but that was the scoop for me. Although I'm still pissed that I have a brand new 2012 Sonata and cant just start it with the push of a button on my key chain, like I did with my 2010 Elantra. It is mind boggling to me that they would engineer a remote starter that you can only use with a freaking Phone & a $179.00 service. And then tell me I can just press a button on my remote to start it? Not THAT ia Pathetic.

But I still LOVE the Sonata, OMG its is amazing. I'm thinking about buying a remote start kit (with the key chains) and deactivating the factory remote start. But there HAS to be a way to add Key chain starting to teh factory remote start.

if anyone has done it, please let em know..
Thanks

So your friend remote started your car  I call shenanagins.. It wouldn't be phone specific, maybe OS (like you gotta be on 2.3 for it to work) but even find that hard to beleive; and I'm on 2.3 (droid inc2) and it doesn't work for me.

After subscribing to the essentials package (or whichever one has remote start) I was disappointed to find out remote start will not be available till the end of the year! Why didnt Hyundai inform people of this BEFORE they subscibed. They also told me there would be no rebate or pro-rating of the fee, so I'm paying for something I'm not getting. They also said it is only available in cars with push button start.

I think BlueLink is a joke! For $180. a year you could have a remote start installed at a Best Buy. As far as I can tell it's not worth $50 a year.
Seriously. I try and see what I get for my Eco coach and it claims I'm getting 13 mpg when I just filled up my tank with around 430 miles driven on it. So this system was/is not ready for primetime. I don't know why they tried to rush it. I would have waited for either the 2012.5 or at least the 2013 models and made sure every feature actually worked and was running smoothly. My free trail will be over before this actually will be fixed. I am with everyone else. I just want an aftermarket remote start kit for the car.

I baught my 2012 sonata in August, and I'm anxiously awaiting this feature. Its basically the make/break on my paying for the Bluelink stuff. I use the iPhone app, which is buggy at best :(. Though occaisionally it does work, I obviously can't do remote start.

I, too, wish my keychain could remote start as well -- don't understand why thats not available.....

#15 ·
I understand why keychain remote start won't be available - because then NO ONE would buy bluelink (though it is dubious as to if anyone would anyway). I don't mind being a beta tester for them, but don't charge me for it. I will contact them when my trial is up and try to convince them that it is unethical to start charging me until everything is working smoothly. I still have yet to get an e-mail when I fill up my gas tank (about 10 fills so far and yes I've signed up for the e-mail). I do get the monthly car status report but who can trust itif they can't even get my MPG correct? I see all the green check marks but I have no idea if it actually did those checks.

Maybe someone will figure out how to hack into the remote start once it is turned on.

There is a remote start that worked on a 2011 optima with using the OEM remote only. I don't know if any Sonata owners have tried it. I read and saw a video over on optimaforums.com. I went into my bluelink options and changed the option to send an report on the eco coach side after each fill up of 2+ gallons. I was receiving mine but they were telling me that I was getting 12-13mpg. I changed it back to get it during my monthly report. I checked it after one month and it did not update.

I am working on it, I can start the car with my factory remote, but once the car is started I have to use the remote that came with the kit to open the doors. Should have that figured out soon.

2012 Sonata SE Remote Start?

Just bought 2012 Sonata SE. Signed up for blue link and looking forward to remote start for winter. I use android phone and it would not work. Everything else works great. Called Blue Link and was told that it is not ready yet. Same answer from dealer. I get the not supported message on phone when I tried it. I wonder how the other comments I have read on this site say that there app did start there car? Supposedly Blue Link will contact me via car and email when it is up and running. We will see.

Help choosing remote start for 2012 sonata GLS

Friends, I have a 2012 Sonata GLS, with chicago winter creeping up, need to decide what kind of remote start option to go for.

Choices:
a) autostart starter at local shop $250 or so
b) automate started at dealer $355
c) viper starter with smartphone option (iphone, android, blackberry) for $550
(subscription is $120 / 3 years)

d) bluelink (doesn't seem to be an option since I have GLS with no push button, and not sure if there is any way to install hyundai oem pushbutton on GLS, even then their subscription is not so cheap)

Any suggestions? Do the prices seem reasonable to you? I would prefer a remote start that I can access from internet (whether its phone or regular browser) as i'm not sure with the parking spot I usually get in my office garage the regular ones would work from my cube.

the features listed in the Essential Package:

  • Remote Door Unlock/Lock
  • Remote Horn & Lights
  • Panic Notification
  • Remote Vehicle Start
    - Late Availability
  • Alarm Notification
  • Quick Tips
  • Service Link

  • Location Sharing
  • Voice Text Messaging
  • Automated Diagnostic Trouble Code Notification
  • Maintenance Alert
  • Recall Advisor
  • Stolen Vehicle Recovery

  • Stolen Vehicle Slowdown
  • Vehicle Immobilization
  • Valet Alert
  • Geo-fence
  • Speed Alert
  • Curfew Alert
I had given my credit card number to double the coverage time for free (my credit card expires next month). They charge $50 if I want to extend the essentials coverage for 1 year, so it seems it's $50 not $179.00 for an annual subription to be able to start your car, when they are finally done with the app.

I did my first oil change and was wondering what would happen if someone remote started my car without oil in it??

Not sure if anyone is aware of this but the Remote Start with Blue Link is up and running!!! You can NOT use this feature with the app yet. However you can call:

1-855-225-835465 (1-855-2BlueLink)
press 1,
press 1,
press 1,
input phone number,
input pin,
and say start engine,
press 1!

I will admit this process takes a second but it sends the signal and starts the car. I have messed with mine all day. The car will only stay running for 10 mins, the doors stay locked. If you unlock the doors and press the brake pedal without the key fab in the car it will shut off. Pretty nifty!

I tried this too and it didn't work after three attempts. I have the standard GLS model, will Hyundai install a standard remote start package if I call their maintenance department? I don't have the push button start, so I'll never be able to use the BlueLink app (which sounds like a good thing!)

so u have to pay 179.99 just to remote start just by calling a 1800 number and doing a 45 step input to start the car. i wonder when hyundai is going to release the option for the phones. i wouldn't pay 179.99 must be a year i guess just for those little features some one poster up why would i want it to give me a diagnostic code. thats the dealers job that's why you have warranty. to me this system is not worth it. but hey i'm pretty sure they will get alot of people on the hook just beacuse it remote starts lol :) im pretty sure paying 179.99 every year will get old quick bad enough i have a car payment too lol

Hold on a second.

Bluelink is "unofficially" working on some Sonata's. Officially, the remote start function of Bluelink is still not available.

There's a lot of frustration amongst owners about this and we don't want to perpetuate the problem by overstating the situation.
