If the Sonata 2.4 liter direct injection 4-cylinder puts out 200 hp it may need to offer the V6.

What do any of you think should the Yf offer a V6 engine or at least a diesel?
I think a V6 is needed because of competition. Its definetly not going to be sold in korea because the NF V33 Sonata was never very popular there. I heard they usually have to pay a tax based on fuel consumption. And Im sure these are just rumors, the new 3.5 V6 will surely be offered in the YF Sonata :)

I’ll believe this when I see it… everyone else is predicting a 3.5 litre Lambda V6 variant.

Having said that, the new four-pot is rumoured to be very smooth and just as powerful as a first-gen Nissan VQ. Hmmm. Throw in the production efficiencies of a single-powertrain lineup, wrap it all in stunning new sheetmetal, and this just might be for real. It could certainly give Toyondissan a few sleepless nights.

Another theory could be that they are going to leave the Sonata as being a 4 Cyl DI Engine, and having one V6 powertrain on the Azera. Because when you think about it, if the next gen Sonata is supposed to have a 3.5 277 HP V6, then where does it put the Azera? Would Azera have 300 HP like the V6 Genesis? I really doubt this because its going to be a big mess putting 300 horsepower through the front wheels.

I was thinking about this as well. Hyundai is in weird situation in which they have Azera and Genesis.

The highest trend of YF in Korea is more expensive than the entry price of Azera there.

So they may set the new sonata as {2.4 D.I./Turbo-charged 2.4 D.I} instead of {2.4 D.I./V6}.

Basically the new sonata receives 20 more hp from 175hp to 195hp. Then if the new V6 receives 20 more hp as well it would be really close the V6 Genesis hp. So maybe Hyundai might not want that.

And Azera atleast in Korea will continue and the new generation will come end of next year.

So 6 cylinder YF? We still wont know until Hyundai OFFICIALLY annouces it. :innocent:

If I want a V6 Ill get a Genesis or something larger, not a sonata.

Plus 15% of Sonata sales were V6 and Im not interested buying a 6 cylinder so I couldn't care less. :57:

Eithier way taking the V6 off the market in my opinion is stupid i think Hyundai is making a mistake but whatever i just know i wont be in the market for a Hyundai for a while, was going to shoot for a Gen but nahhh forget it.

When you run a business the no brainer would be to drop the V6 model because it is only 15% sales, 85% 4cylinders. Do the math the 4cylinder option only makes financial sense to hmc.
And lose 15% sales? Doesn't make sense but ok.You have to remember the people that have also bought a 4 banger and regret it wishing they would have gotten the V6.

That is the old model. The direct injected 2.4 puts out 200 hp that is 25 hp more than the current 4 cylinder engine.
Hyundai is also losing sales on the Azera, they want to make that model the V6 model.

2011 Hyundai Sonata: More images hit the Web
09/01/2009, 12:50 PMBy Drew Johnson
The flood gates have officially opened on Hyundai’s all-new 2011 Sonata as more leaked images of the updated sedan have hit the Web. The latest images give us our best look at the 2011, a full eight days before the real deal will be unveiled.

Codenamed “YF,” this Sonata was penned at Hyundai’s design studio in Irvine, California. We were told there was heated debate in the boardroom over the styling direction of the new Sonata. Good reason is said to have won that debate, with the Sonata’s styling taking a more conservative look — save for the sloping rear roofline.

However, from the look of the leaked images — which surfaced on Hyundai-blog.com — conservative doesn’t necessarily mean bland. Although some comparisons could be made to Subaru’s new Legacy sedan, the sedan in question looks thoroughly fresh and highly stylized for the mid-size sedan market.

Details on this vehicle are in short supply at the moment, but Hyundai may be planning a hybrid version of the Sonata. We may see a concept car for the new Sonata during the upcoming auto show season, with the new Sonata likely hitting the market about mid-2010.

Powertrains will be modified across the board with a direct-injection 2.4-liter four-cylinder anchoring the low-end of the spectrum, while a 3.5-liter V6 will target upper-level competitors. Expect a little less than 200 horsepower from the four-cylinder and around 250 horsepower from the V6.

Hyundai is also planning a hybrid model of the Sonata that will use lithium polymer batteries instead of the often discussed lithium-ion. The polymer batteries are said to be more durable and cheaper to make
