Possible rip-off on a new turbo due to leak??

turbo issues! My wife’s 2012 Sonata had an oil leak that has been noticeable for awhile. We decided while the brakes done + a new tie rod to also have the leak checked out. The mechanic said the oil leak was from both the valve cover and worse, inside the turbo? He said on this model the only way to fix the oil leak “inside the turbo” where he said it was is to replace the turbo. Well, after 800 for new front brakes+rotors, struts and a tie rod, I just dropped another 1750.00 for a new valve cover gasket and apparently a new (refurbished turbo) I am wondering if we possibly got ripped as the Only common oil leak issues I seem to find online from the turbo is the oil feedline

Does it leak?

Always get a 2nd opinion for all major repairs

Motto for advice giving on a forum: You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

Sad country is where most neutered men can't change a tire or use a tire PSI gauge, can't check their engine oil or even pop their hood.

TrollBots are everywhere. Paid trolls are easy to spot in the 'off topic' forums everywhere.

Those who say it cannot be done, should not interrupt the person doing it.

Garage
Triple post......

Reply from your other posts:

The oil "leak" from the turbo could have been just oil coming from the valve cover and looked like it was from the turbo. Or like you said it could have been the feed line. Or it could have actually been internal issue in the turbo. Do you have pics of where the leaks were coming from??
