Started the oil consumption test with the dealer yesterday.

Questions:

1) Is there a specific usage that Hyundai has that would indicate a new engine would be granted?

2) If a new engine is installed what woukd the warranty be?

Thanks to the forum for giving me the info about this test.
So in my experience, I think the general word on the street from Hyundai originally was 1 quart/1K miles was acceptable. I have a feeling this has generally changed slightly as more and more issues are reported, but it sounds like you're close to what my situation was, 2 quarts every 1K miles. I would think this is squarely in the realm of possible PA submission/approval. I had to do 3 tests to make sure there was enough detail to back up the claim.

As for warranty, I was told by my SA that it would be something like a 12 month warranty for defects, issues, etc. that might pop up with the new engine, but I don't recall if there was a mileage limit associated with it. It wouldn't surprise me if it was like 12 months/10K miles but don't quote me on that.

From the back of the invoice printout - 12 months or 12K miles.

"... limited to 12 months from the date of installation, or twelve thousand (12,000) miles of service, whichever occurs first, for Hyundai Genuine replacement parts supplied by HMA and purchased from and
installed by an authorized Hyundai Motor America dealer."

Since the replacement isn't purchased... I am not sure this 12-month/12,000 mi. warranty applies. Might want to check with HMA corporate to see.

Just got the call a little while ago that my new engine has arrived at the dealership, I'll be dropping my car off on Monday to have the work done. I'll update the forum Tue/Wed next week with the results!

Those of you getting the oil consumption tests done, Are the dealers requiring an oil flush and fill first? I inquired about it last recall service and they said I need an oil flush and fill @ $99 before they can start the consumption test. I dont see why this is necessary. I have an appointment next week for more recalls and an airbag light. Clock spring it sounds like. B1361 DAB high resistance. I want to have all my ducks in a row when I ask for the oil consumption test.

No flush is required

Yes, no flush necessary. My Sonata did have a leak around the lower part (they showed me, no dealer BS) so I did pay to have that sealed before I started my OIC, just to make sure it was all legit. Even after the seal it was roughly 2 qt/1000 miles on all 3 intervals. I just dropped it off this morning to have the engine replaced

They might be thinking that the piston rings are carboned up and a flush might help free them up and perhaps make your oil consumption more like normal. IDK.
