2014 Sonata GLS Engine Knock

Hey everyone! This is more to inform everyone rather than ask a question. My dad owns a 2014 Sonata GLS that I drive 50% of the time. It just hit 64,000 miles, oil changes religiously by our local dealership, well maintained, the whole 9 yards. On his way home from work today his engine started knocking, rattling, and would not accelerate. He brought it home not knowing for sure what it was. As soon as I got in the car, I knew he was in need of an engine replacement. We took it to our dealership, and they said that it is going to need a new engine.
I know there was a recall for the 2011-2014’s for the engine, and the dealership told us his car was not a part of it. They are covering all costs and we don’t have to pay a dime.
I myself daily a 2015 Sonata SE and am hoping I will not be plagued with this issue, but only time will tell.
How many others have had engine issues with their sonatas, more specifically towards owners of the 2014’s and newer?

Some informative data collected here:

Was 2014 Sonata burning oil? I wonder if the level was checked regularly.

It did not burn oil. Oil was checked around every 2,000 miles. Never showed any signs of engine wear or issues. Oil was changed every 4,000 miles by the dealership also.

Kinda old news,, long high post count - page count topic been running for couple year..

2.0T or 2.4: in YF Sonata will get "QQH" long block if it knocks or seized..

<--- Please fill in the 'location' and 'what you drive(year & chassis) and engine size' boxes on your personal profile page.
