Curvy, tapered styling makes a car look smaller. Used to drive me crazy when I was a Nissan salesman in the early '90s, and people would ask why an Altima costs so much more than a Civic or Corolla.

If you are talking about interior volume, the Honda Accord Sedan is the only other "mid sized family sedan" that has enough interior volume to qualify for large car status. Any larger than the Sonata and Accord and you get into large car territory, (i.e. Ford Taurus, Chrysler 300, Chevy Impala, etc). Everything else is in a lower bracket.
