Can anyone shed some light on the single wire connection to the top of the power steering pump on an XG350? The wire is a real bear to connect as the pump is pretty well buried. The other end of the wire connects to the wiring harness by the fly by wire unit (variable intake motor?) mounted in the upper left corner of the engine bay.

What is the function?
Where does the wire eventually connect to?
what are the consequences of running with the wire off?
what are the consequences of running with the wire shorted to gnd?
Would any error codes be posted along with the "service engine soon" light?

Just bought a new to me 2005 XG350 with 73000 miles and it looks like a small fire may have been in the engine compartment as this wire is melted pretty good. Looks like it could be open, shorted to gnd, or ok.

Thanks

Dan

I would assume it is a pressure sensor. It would speed up the idle when it senses a load on the pump.
