As some of you know, I lowered my car several days ago with H&R springs. I noticed right away that the front end makes wierd noises. It sounds like something rubbery rubbing againt another rubber or metal. It happens when I go on bump and front springs compress.

I'm wondering if other people that lowered their accents with same springs notice that sound.

At first I thought it was the rubber tubing that covers the lower portion of the springs, when spring compresses that rubber gets squished by the coil above/below it. But now I'm not sure anymore.

I just checked the car's front suspension again, and everything that's connected to it, nothing loose, everything is tight and held in place.

Btw, I also notice if the car is raised, the sound disaapears

Any opinions? Is it normal on accents? Do other accent owners have similar sound? (I had H&R springs on my civic, and didnt have any such sounds)

Have the same issue - also had the Ultra Racing bars installed, they have since been removed. My sound only comes from the left side. It looked like the lower control arm front bushing slipped, so I had that replaced. Still got the squeaking. went to dealer this AM, they say everything is tight, so that's good. So I suppose I'll live with the squeak.

Did you get your car aligned as well?

Let me know what happens with it! Glad to know someone else out there has the same issue!

Cheers

Dave
hey Dave, I found the problem that causes our squeaking. If you look at the shock, you'll see a boot sitting on it. Inside we have a bump stop. With my car sitting normally, the bump stop is touching fully the strut. Whenever I go over a bump, the spring compresses, and so does the bump stop. Since it's made out of rubber, it causes that rubber squishing sound.

What I want to know is the people that are lowered here, did you guys cut the bump stop to make it shorter or fully remove it? And how does the strut handle that?

Congrats on the SRI, definitly will be waiting to hear about that as well.

I'm actually going tomorrow to purchase two used front struts off a 2007 accent sport, and gonna test springs on them with cut bump stops. This way if I blow the shocks I still have the originals one to go back on.

Should be a big difference, one is the noise factor second is the feeling, with the bump stop seating all the way at the bottom, the shock absorber can't work, and ride is bouncy up front. With the ability for the shock absorber to actually absorb the bumps, the ride should be smoother as well as stiffer.

I'm wondering what's Hyundai's solution to this problem when their mechanics install the available eibach springs.

hmm.. aftermarket bump stops isn't actually a bad idea. do you know any brand names that carry them, so i can look into it?

and yes, i did the spring install myself, so i know everything was done right, and was extremely surprised to hear that sound.

the struts i'm getting for a scrap yard. hopefully they aren't damaged.

So everything was going fine. I ended up getting only one sport strut, took it apart, cut the bump stop. Already took original strut off, compress spring, unscrew top nut, but the top hat didn't come off. I tried banging it out, used a puller which eventually bent the top hat, nothing worked. With my H&R spring stuck on the original strut, I ended up putting stock spring on the used one I bought, before you know it I had the car raised again, back on original springs, lol.

I need to get my hands on 2 new struts, specifically sport ones.

Good news however, after playing around with the used strut that I bought, it can easily withstand normal driving with the bump stop cut in half. It's much stiffer than non sport struts.
