Using Rondy_'s Diy To Make Xenon Things

Well, I'm going to be doing it.  I went to the flea market the other day, and picked up some headlights from a mustang for $50.  the reason for that is, I'm going to be taking the projectors out of them, and putting them in my Accent. :D

This is what I want it to end up looking like...

[attachment=19818:untitled.JPG]

I want to find some car paint the same color as my car, and pretty much do what Rondy_ did, but do it my cars color on the inside. I have primer, I just have to find a site that sells my cars paint.

I'm going to try to off set the center hole a little to the upper right when I cut it so I could fit the Xenon thing, and put the hologin in the bottom left as close to the other bulb as possible, without it looking bad.

These are the pictures of the Mustang lights that I'm about to destroy. :D

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please don't be afraid to be a critic.  You just might be saving me from doing something wrong.

I do have some questions that you guys who have done this retrofit might have answers for.

1. If I did decide to just put the Xenon in with no hologin, would I still have High beams AND low beams?

2. What fuse will I need for the angel eye.  I'm going to be spliceing them into the headlights power.

3. Is spliceing the angeleyes into the headlights power a bad idea?

4. Where could I get good housing for them to make it look good?

I might have more questions further down the road with this. (it will take me a while to do) So please be patient with me. :)

I came up with an idea to make the angel eyes on when the headlights are on, and when just the parking lights are on.  (meaning when you take the key out, they'll still be on untill you open the door)

I made this wiring diagram in paint.

[attachment=19824:Wiring_diagram_1.jpg]

If I wire it to both the headlights power, and the parking lights power, and just bring them both to the same fuse, I should get what I want.

Congrats on going for the retrofit.
Since ur using the stangs headlights, the projector will
more likely be a low beam projector. the high beam installed on an offset...IMO is a bad idea since it will b ur high beams and the angle could be way off. Especially in the stock
headlight housing. I would be concerned about clearance issues with the reflective dish and the proj housing in our stock housing. U font want them aimed down or too far up.

What a lot of us retrofitters have done is snatched up a pair of bixenon projectors that serve as a hi and Lo projector housing. I can see where ur coming from with the dual set up but I'm not sure if there's a lotta room for that.

1.If u scrap the halogen, you won't have hi beams. The projector in The stang is most likely a low beam projector, that is, it has a permanent shield on the inside to cut the output off (lowbeams) eliminating the high beam output.

2 & 3. I would splice the angel eyes to the parking lights. Unless ur runnin ccfl angel eyes u really won't see them when ur headlights are on. I ran mine to A switch so I can
have them on whenever I want even when the car is off.

Bixenon projector or not at all. You will not be happy with your current plan of halogen and projector, trust me...
Good luck man and take pics. Hey since were on the headlight issue I have 3000k HID headlights and i was wondering if i paint the reflector bowls black in the housing along with the rest of the inside of the headlight will it greatly affect the brightness of my light? thanks
Before you start tearing into your headlights, are you sure you can handle every step comfortably? You might have to mold fiberglass, use body filler and such. OEM headlights are expensive. If I were doing this, I would get a set of aftermarket headlights like DEPO or TYC. That way you won't feel bad if something goes wrong.

You can get a set of bi-xenon projectors for cheap on ebay. Hella E55 projectors are commonly used by manufacturers. You can get a clean set under 100$. Make sure the high beam solenoid works.

http://www.theretrofitsource.com sells new projectors and kits as well. You can get clear E55 lenses (ZKW-R) to improve the beam cutoff and a set of shrouds.

Good luck, it's something I'll be doing in the future.

If you paint your reflector bowls black and you're not using projectors, what would the light reflect off of? In other words, without projectors you would essentially kill your headlights. (they wouldn't work)

I'm currently very displeased with The Retrofit Source. Both ballasts they sold me have died and they only replaced one and it took them a month and a half and many emails badgering them to remind them that I sent it, they received it, and still hadn't shipped off my replacement. Backing up a step, when I created my kit, I wanted new ballasts. They contacted me telling me that they didn't have the ones I wanted, but they had these 'slightly used' ones that were supposed to be better that they'd give me for the same price. Well, after one month one died which I then replaced with one I had lying around the shop (and it has since been perfect) and four months later the other died. When I replaced the second dead one with the replacement they sent me for the first one, my high beam for that light no longer works - and they claim it wouldn't make a difference. Well, gee, it worked before it died and now it doesn't with their replacement. Even worse, they didn't bother to water-proof the replacement they sent me. Anyway, they offered to replace the other, but told me that I should really pay to buy new ones because they won't replace them any more. Since that last email they sent me, I just stopped dealing with them.

In short, basically I have to buy a new igniter and/bulbs because they feel that the ballast they sent me wouldn't affect my high-beam and if I do buy them and the problem isn't solved, then I need yet another ballast. So annoyed.

I was planning on buying new aftermarket cheapo headlights I saw on ebay for half the price of the ones I have now, because I melted mine when I didn't pay attention to the wattage of the bulbs I put in. *Face palm* haha. So I was thinking: I'll put them in my car, and play with the ones I destroyed.  Once I learn the mestakes I might make, get a feel for this project, and know what I'm doing, I'll go to the ones I'm about to buy, and do the actual job.

But so the Bi-exenons are high beams and low beams? If so, maybe I could use the angel eyes from this, and get some Bi-exenons as well, and throw the rest of these ford headlights away.

--------------

(Just a thought)... Just bouncing ideas around.

If I do have room for it... What do you guys think about an Accent with the newer BMW headlight look with the two angel eyes with two different bulbs?

I could get 2 high beam exenons, and still use the low beam ones I have from the stang as well maybe? that is if I have room.

I'm not so sure you'll have room to fit two, plus it'll be far less of a headache on you if you go with a bixenon projector wiring wise. If you split them, you'll have to figure out how to set it it up and I don't think you'll really want to do that.
True. Scratch that idea than.  I want as less headaches as possible. haha.

Alright.  Biexenons it is.  Maybe I'll just take the angel eyes out of these, and junk the rest.

I was also thinking about maybe just taking it to these guys: http://www.blackflamecustoms.com/

They're only 3 hours away from me.

I love this:

I would have them do pretty much the same thing, only instead of green, it would be my car's dark blue color, with (in white) it would say "BIXENON" on the side of the colored part, and I'm gonna have the halos.

****... If I did that, than I will have wasted $50.

... Although it would be a neat experience to do it myself... or at least try.

DDM Tuning ftw.
Wow.  I emailed them about it, and told them exactly what I want... aaannnddd.... they sent me one back saying that the price range is around $600-$750. I think if I did it, it would be cheaper.
What do you guys suggest?

If I do it myself, it'll be like $200-$400 cheaper. But I know for a fact that if I had them do it for their price, It'd come out 100X better than what I could do.
Paying that much for custom headlights is retarded. What happens when you get into an accident? Insurance is not going to write you a check for your custom work; they're going to write a check for the STOCK headlights.

I was only planning on getting their clear lenses but it's good to know their customer service sucks.

Depends on your insurer. Some will pay for what is on the car at the moment of accident and others will only pay for stock/declared parts. If you fight them enough, they'll pay for whatever is on the car.

Mine will, but they'll increase my premium if I have things that I declare more valuable than stock.
I guess I'd have to keep my reciept, or proof of purchase incase I got in an accident. Maybe they'd replace them if I did that.
Hi Leprakong,

I am glad you are going to work on a retrofit, and not just install an HID kit.

I just want to let you know that the projectors on those aftermaket mustang headlights are very crappy HALOGEN projectors. Even though you will not get any glare problems, the performance is really poor. I really suggest you get come BIXENON projectors for your retrofit.
Definately going to.  Thank ya'. I gotta say thank you too for making the DIY, otherwise I would have never thought of doing this. I've decided that I'm going to have black flame Customs do it for their outrageous price.  The reason being because this seems like a project I'm going to skrew up.  the Biexenons that I'll be using are these FX-R Bi-Xenon Projectors: http://blackflamecustoms.com/products/prod...045efa55e30140d  ://http://blackflamecustoms.com/produc...5efa55e30140d  ://http://blackflamecustoms.com/produc...5efa55e30140d  ://http://blackflamecustoms.com/produc...5efa55e30140d  and I'll just send them the angel eyes from the stang's headlights so they could put them in with the xenons.

I've been working alot of overtime to work up the money for them.
