When a fault has been cured the CEL will switch off after a couple of rides.
However, the error code will remain in memory till erased by a scanner.
But when the fault still exists and is not cured the CEL will remain on or will be back after code erasure by a scanner.
Pulling the ECU fuse will not cure anything.
Good luck,
Paul

There's a reason the CEL came on. Extinguishing it may not make the problem go away. Conversely it may be nothing more than cheap gas or a vent clogged gas cap. Regardless, you should find out what the code is and correct the problem. Somebody here can direct you to Autozone? for a free code read to find out what's going on.

'Turn it off' by getting whatever problem it's indicating fixed.
This.

I see you're in Los Angeles. Keep in mind that if Oregon will fail you for it, there's NO way you'll pass California's emissions test to renew your plates with a check engine light on.

OR with it disabled. The testing looks for that too.

Do you think that might be why he asked in the first place ?? ;)
Yep. Taking the bulb out doesn't erase the code(s) and the computer knows it.
