I don't know what's going on with the Elantra 08 GLS 2.0, it has been going on for a while now, when I'm at 75 to 80 mph and I let off the gas it will drag the cars speed down to 35 mph so fast it's nuts, when I put the car in neutral it will coast for a long time but if I bump it back into Drive then it spikes the rpms and the car starts to slow down again dang fast. It doesn't matter h
What speed the car is going it does it. Its really affected the mpg now went for 420 per tank to can barely get 260 miles per tank. I have checked the brake pads and other stuff so I'm at a loss. Thanks

Sounds about right...
My MT had about 3200 rpm at 80 mph in 5th gear. AT is 4 gear but the last one is similar in overall ratio.

Not sure what to tell you. How quick slow down it is comparing to neutral roll?
Did you check ATF?

One thing to know is that the car will exercise engine braking and will downshift while still engine braking.
But it still does not explain why fuel economy dropped so drastically.

How is acceleration?
Any other problems with shifting? Other gears (reverse)?
