Does nyone know what the torque is supposed to be on the rear wheel bearing bolt on a 94 Elantra? My initial reaction is TIGHT because it's the only thing holding the wheel on... not even a cotter pin. But it is a wheel bearing and I don't want to wipe out the new one.

Thanks,
J

Thank you very much! I know the bolt was not to tight when i pulled it off. I'm betting that the last time the girlfriend had the car inspected the mechanic didn't tighten it enough and that's what wiped the bearings in the first place. Thanks again!

The loose nut could also be from wear

The shop manual recommends that, if it took less than 85 ft/lb to remove the old nut it should be replaced.
