I had the windows tinted this week. The driver/passenger windows are 35% and the rears are all 20%. Window tinting on cars is illegal in my state (PA) so I went with a relatively light tint so as not to attract too many LEO's. Besides, I learned years ago that the real dark tint's can be a real problem at night.

Looks great man! I too am in Pa. and had my Nissan Titan windows tinted to match the rear ones and have not had a problem. I am planning to do the same with the sonata once I get it.

Just curious, how much did it cost to tint like you did and what company tinted for ya.....
The price was $180. It was done by Feltch's Window Tinting in Hanover,PA. (717)637-3229. The film is top quality (CPFilms - Martinsville, VA). This is the 4th car he's done for me in the last 10 years and I've never had a problem.

Don,

If you happen to come outside one day and your car isn't there, I stole it :p . It looks great with the tint!

Looks great! I just picked up a Silver Limited tonight and I want to get the rears tinted too. But I'm concerned it might be difficult because of the sloping rear windshield. How did the bottom of your rear tint go? Looks like there's not much room at the bottom and in the middle bottom the brake light bumps up pretty close to the glass.

The film on the rear window fits perfect. Looks like a factory job. Rather then cut around the brake light in the rear window, the installer installed the film (all in one piece) over the entire rear window glass area. He explained that with the new brighter LED's in the rear window brake lights they easily show thru the tint when the brakes are applied. When he was finished he demo'd the brake light and, like he said, it was still highly visable even in bright sunlight.
I really didn't watch him do the whole installation but I know it takes a lot of skill to work the film into the real tight areas and still be able to smooth it out and get the moisture out. Even the 2 small triangular windows behind the rear passenger windows look perfect. He let those go 'til last because he said they would probably be the hardest to do. The whole job took about 2 hours. It sure isn't for amatuers.

Hello,

That red looks great with the tint. New to the Hyundai forum. Just bought a 2011 black Sonata SE for the wife, and she is wanting the windows tinted. Do you know what brand of tint the shop used? I was worried that the tint might interfere with the integrated radio antenna. I had Solar Guard HP on my infiniti, but I did not have an integrated antenna in the rear windshield. Any advice?

Thanks,
Marco

Hi,

I have a red Sonata 2011 and I am interested in window tinting. Newer had that done before. My question would be is the film resistant to moving the windows down and up? Will it scratch over time?
Thanks,

I never had scratch problems with a tint I had done years ago. Not sure how good the latest stuff is. What I also would like to know if there will be any problems with the rear window demister. I have seen some cars with after market tints where the demister has clearly affected the film's adhesion to the window.

I have had several vehicles tinted and in over ten plus years, I have never had any problems with scratching, windows going up or down, or problems with the tint in the rear window interfering with the demister (I think you meant defroster). The main thing is to find a good, clean shop that offers quality window tint with a great reputation and a good warranty.

If you don't know of a good shop in your area, you can ask your friends or co-workers that have had their cars tinted for recommendations.

It is. I have the limo all around, you have to roll the side windows down at night to see to the sides. But it makes the car look awesome, and nobody can see you inside which is nice for a bit of privacy.
