Hey guys, new to this forum.

My sister has a 1996 excel. it has 207 000km on it. pretty sure it was due for a timing belt. The other day she was driving and the engine stopped. Pretty sure timing belt finally went. question is, when a timing belt goes in these engines, does it put the valve through piston and any other major damage? Just want to no whether its worth fixing or just throw car in bin. cheers.

welcome to the forums :00000732:

when the belt breaks it will damage some or all of the valves but you will likely get away with any piston damage

So its pretty much not worth fixing since the car is pretty much worth nothing. My sis said it made no sound when it happend. it just stopped. is there any chance that the valves would have survived?
