Right strut spring let loose today with a loud bang! I checked Detroit Axle and eBay and they seem rare as hen's teeth! I will have to check Rocken Auto...bummer! :blownose:

It looks like NO one has assemblies!!!! Any thoughts or experience would be appreciated, thanks!

Autozone has Monroe (not too thrilled) for $102 each! My Buick was cheaper!

Wow. Looks like neither Monroe or KYB even make the replacement assembly. You may have to order a set of springs and build your own assemblies up.

Very surprised.

I thought there was a mid year change or something to that affect. So you may have a part no one wants to make.

Did you check the $$$$$$$ Dealership. :grin2:

One good thing about GM products parts were cheap.

Springs, especially when only replacing one, should be OE. Sorry, but the aftermarket won't offer gazillions of spring offerings. I wonder if there are several options for '11 because of manual/auto transmission, two different engines, and all those weight adding options. One size doesn't fit all when it comes to springs.

Buy from an online dealer. I would replace both struts/springs/hardware at this point. I wouldn't bother with just one side. Might be a good time to do the rear springs and shocks too.

Those 2011+ struts have a mfg'er date range. All after that date must use OE parts for normal ride height/quality. The other option is the coilover and lowrider sets that some of the speedshops sell.

2011-2012 Hyundai Sonata Megan Racing EZII Series Coilovers : Megan Racing

Is very sad that the aftermarket doesn't have OE equivalent struts/springs for the Sonata. I can get Kyb, Monroe, Gabriel, Tokico.... for every other car that I've ever owned.

Need to know the production date of your car. There was a mid year change done and the struts listed might or might now work. In regards to the spring. There is a tsb in regards to installing insulators on springs for cars in the salt belt state. So it possibly might be a warranty issue. Send me the VIN and I will run it for you and advise further.

There is actually something odd about the aftermarket not supporting Hyundai vehicles. The ones that are supported are the low volume models. You would think with the number of Sonatas and Elantras out there that there would be enough volume to justify and set up costs.

I guess I would go with the OE springs and shocks through an on-line store. My wife's 11 Hybrid has 69K miles and the shocks are holding up surprisingly well and why I'll probably go OE unless Koni comes up with something.

If your chassis had spring tube install recall,, call dealer and see if they will try a "PA" request for spring replacement before you waste time dealing with broken spring on your own,, thel will likely need car there to write ticket and verify recall, and take pics for "PA" to see prior to authorization.. spring should ne be problem in the Hyundai part system

Send me VIN

What he said. as per the TSB your production date does not fall within the insulator TSB. in regards to the Struts, TO 7-22-2010 was the mid year change. your car is not compatible for the Monroe or KYB offerings. (12/12/2010 production date) OEM is your only option for the front struts.

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2015/RCRIT-15V629-6792.pdf recall for spring issues.

List price for the springs are about 120 a pop. front struts list for about 220 each.

If your stuck fixing this on your own. check salvage yard. 2012-2014 year range. if your have an SE you need struts off the SE. if you have a GLS or a LIMITED with 17" wheels they are interchangeable.

FYI,, Mr Darren has had the tube recall to his VIN, so he ideally should / might be able to seek FREE spring replace as related to recall.

Hopefully dealer try to help seek approval for him via Hyundai "PA" Request..

With this recall...did they replace the springs or just put a urethane cover over them? (and thanks again! and to 1991!) :grin2:

Most all that showed up was simple tube install,, seen a few that had a broken spring,, then we had to submit to Hyundai for spring replacement,, at 1 point, springs was hard to get, we needed VIN to place order.. that was a few yr ago.

Hyundai only pay for the broken spring replace, they wont up and do opposite side when it not broken.

Interesting to hear that it was done even though his production date fell outside of the date range. Is that typical sbr? Or is it something that a tech spotted (corrosion on spring). Then asked to perform recall?

I was at Bergstrom Hyundai today and have an appointment for Tues. The guy said I have to leave the car in case they want additional photos...a few hours to overnight. It's about 45 min. away...fingers crossed. If I have to pay, I will most likely buy the spring and have my private mechanic (retired tech with a man cave) change it out!

Thank you both for your gracious advice!

Hyundai is free to add VIN on WEBDCS for dealer to find during VIN search after something published..

You made reference to a TSB,, do you have that bulletin number I can look up on service site ??
