At lunch today my check engine light came on. I took it to AAMCO & was told the code is P0122 (Throttle Position Circuit Low).

What do you make of this?

I have a 2003 4 cylinder - 2WD Santa Fe - 155,000 miles.

Is that different from the Crank Position Sensor?

If so, what's it like to replace a TPS (difficulty, cost, etc).

Does that code match the description? I haven't really noticed any performance problems (but it is 7 years old with 155K miles on it so performance isn't great anyway)

It's a little sensor thingy on the intake in between the throttle plate and rubber intake hose. It is not a crank position sensor. It's pretty easy to replace and doesn't cost much.

I bought a code reader in anticipation that the code would come back. It did.

I have a P0122 as well as a P0116. The Freeze Frame 122 is the Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor A Circuit Low Input & the 116 is Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Range/Performance.

Did you have to replace both sensors when you got the code?

If you got the code once chances are very high you are going to get it again. Happened when my coolant temperature sensor started to go. The CEL came on one morning driving to work. About 3 or 4 start cycles later the CEL went back out. Two days later the CEL was back on again. It is a great disadvantage to just clear the error from the ECU because the initial freeze frame data may be vital to correcting a problem that may elude you.
