Google the model and see what others say,
See how it drives, steers, brakes.
Check tires for tread/wear and all are same brand and correct size.
See if you can get a car history (CarFax is better than nothing), any accidents, # owners, local or where from.
Does it have a current inspection sticker.
Get Warranty,if any, details in writing

Good hunting.

I recently test drove a 2008 Accent just like I have (light blue GS Hatchback) but an auto trans and only 60k miles. But it need suspension work in front as something was knocking. Rear brakes were not good which I would expect. Very rusty underneath and subframe. It was starting to rust behind the wheels though. I figured it had another 4 years of rust belt driving body wise.

Interior was nice, AC worked. They wanted $7300!
