Synthetic...uh Oh Not This Again

Hi All, this question is not as much a philosophy of oil as it is a plain old question.

I've read 3k for Dino and 5k or higher for synthetic...I can't find this in my manual anywhere. Here in the Great White North it says 6000 km full stop that would be about 3700k for you that are south of the border..

Am I just not on the right page or is the 5k (miles) just an opinion?

It's whatever it says in your owners manual. Try reading it again. Carefully, because you void your warranty if you don't follow it.
According to the 2008 owner's manual, there are two recommended change intervals for engine oil:

(1) Every 3,000 miles (4,800 km) or 3 months for "severe usage"
(2) Every 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or 6 months for "normal usage"

That's it. A computerized search of the 355-page PDF version reveals exactly ZERO occurrences of the words "synthetic", "conventional" or "dino". It does, however, warn anyone about starting up another debate about synthetic oil vs. dino oil, charm bracelets vs. troll dolls, or fuel injector magnets that deliver 200 mpg.

Exactly. In the unlikely event you needed to produce documentation supporting regular oil changes, all you'd need to show is they took place every 7500mi/6mo or less. I go sort of middle ground and do oil changes every 5-6Kmi on my 2008 2.7L. w/ synthetic blend 5w20 and Hyundai oil filters. I bought a six pack of Hyundai filters on eBay for ~$30 shipped.

Right on the money, Joel. I asked a Hyundai technician friend of mine if a transmission claim could be denied on the basis that I have a trailer hitch installed on my SF but never changed the tranny fluid on the "severe" schedule. He just laughed, and said if there's a problem during the warranty period Hyundai will fix it.
