hey guys my son's car 2010 miata mx5 he snapped his e brake yesterday after using it its sitting in gear chalked at whheels how hard to swap out old cables?? anyone no??
On a 2010 miata? not sure never done one. i would take it to a shop usually with E-brake cables one will break on one side still leaving you with one brake cable working on the other side rear of the car. unless both broke? if they did you have no Parking brakes. to hold the car this is a 5 speed stick?
thx for the quick response. my son say's he has no e-brakes at all" i cant find anything online that goes into detail on how to dyi' it. oh yes 6 speed
6 speed ok. I would not work on a car in my garage with-out parking brakes just not worth it. i say play it safe take it to a shop & in the mean time instead of leaving it in Gear tell him to put it in, "Reverse" it holds the car alot better.
There are several required modifications you must do when converting a Miata to a racecar. A big radiator is one. Racing brake pads is another. Another must-do item is removing the parking brake mechanism to reduce drag on rear pads. Yes, you can pull the E-brake adjuster screws on the caliper...

Never owned a mazda but that design also used on other makes.
yes i think he said it was the spreader and cable he pulled his brake really hard for parking on a steep down hill when it snaped.! heard a load pop wang noise its fixed now thx! all
I replaced the cables on my '08 Accent last year. I only did it because I could not get the old ones out of the backing plate and I needed new backing plates. I have brake drums.
If your hub end of the cable is all plastic you can probably get it out without too much trouble. From the hub to the actual lever was actually quite easy.
On my rear hubs the hub, backing plate and cable end were all one mass of rusted together steel.
