So my little boys asked me if I could put Christmas lights on the outside of our vehicle (their friends parents have done this on their SUV's) and want me to do it as well. I know there is a AC power inverter located in the rear of the vehicle, but every time I plug 1 string of lights into it, the switch just clicks and no power to the lights. Am I missing something? The last thing I want to do is blow my electrical system up but I wouldn't think one strand of lights is too powerful for this switch. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Just a couple suggestions:
Turn off the inverter on the dash, plug in the lights and then turn on the inverter.
Try a different set or LED there may be a short in the one you are using.

Hope this helps.

plug in a phone charger to the inverter and make sure the inverter is in fact operable. then, do as dmbshat says.

good luck

Better late than never

The AC inverter turns itself off fairly quickly to prevent accidentally running down the battery, so we used a light string made for cars that plugs into a cigarette lighter.
