Hey everyone,

Started my car the other day, terible knocking from the engine. revs responded strangely from the throttle. Very slow to come back down. I had the timing belt, cam shaft tensioner and the water pump done 3 weeks earlier. so I assumed the worst. took it back to the mechanic. they assumed the worst as well, but heard a tiny squeel from the serpintine belt. removed the belt and tensioner, ran the engine and no knocking. they said the revs were acting strange due to the computer thinking the alternator was not getting a charge. and the metal on metal knock was the failed tensioner. sounds legit to me. what do you guys think. is this a common problem. could they have put it back on wrong when the timing belt was done?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

It sounds logical except that they worked on it prior...but 3 weeks? It would have shown up sooner if they put it on wrong, in my opinion.
