Hi all, just returned from an 80 mile round trip. A couple of miles after the start of the return journey the car suddenly went dead and cruised to a stop. Engine wouldn't start. Tried several times. Then after calling Green Flag, tried once more and it started. Noticed the alternator check light was on. Cancelled Green Flag call out, drove home carefully. Alternator light remained lit all the way home but the car drove as usual. Once home switched off the engine left a few minutes, then restarted. Fired up as usual but alternator check light is still on. Any ideas what the problem may be. I don't have a code reader to see the fault number. Thanks.

The alternator check light (battery symbol) means there's a charging system fault. You'd need to have the charging system tested to find out what the problem is. More than likely it'll be a faulty alternator.
