Hi all,

I have a 2006 Santa Fe Diesel seven seater.

When in 2nd and 3rd gears, travelling around 30 to 40mph, there is a rattle like noise coming from engine-- tic tic tic almost like a tapit noise . Engine is very noisy in these low gears, then when car is in 5.th gear there is no rattling noise at all.

What could be causing this . Is it a problem in the engine or with the gear box?

Thanks all.

Dual mass flywheel perhaps? Does the rattle change or go away if you press the clutch?

I posted this somewhere else but a ticking engine noise could, almost, be anything. Watch this video, it probably isn't this and the guy does it on a BMW engine but if you can wade through his waffle he does say it applies to any vehicle with hydraulic tappets. I have no idea whether the SF has hydraulics or not but it's so simple it's worth a punt
