My 2009 Santa Fe has been having range/position/reliability issues.
First off, I replaced the battery (CR2032) and cleaning the contacts inside. They looked pretty clean initially.
Symptoms:
It will often take a few to several attempts to lock the door. It seems if I am close to the car it is worse.
There is a dead spot standing right behind the rear hatch.
Unlocking seems to work better than locking.
Cold weather makes it much worse and it will even stop working entirely.

Is the unit mechanically worn out?

Do you only have one remote key? If you have another one, does the other one work better, or is it just as bad? If it's the same, and they both have new CR2032 batteries, this would point to a problem with the transmitter/receiver in the vehicle. Maybe there is a wiring issue there.

test the battery with a multitester. pos on one side and neg on the other. maybe the batteries are bad. happened to me.

And the battery has to be above 3v to work good.
