Hi Probably a blonde question, but can some one tell me if the hose on the left hand side of the overflow tank is supposed to connect to something? My daughter over filled the coolant and it was draining out. Also the car makes a ticking noise, suggestions have been "cracked head" or I researched " hydraulic Lifters". Unfortunately the mechanic is away until 20th January. Thanks in advance.

The overflow tank has two hoses
One comes from the radiator
When the radiator gets hot, the coolant expands and pressure builds
This makes the coolant take more space
Coolant flows over to the overflow bottle
If the coolant bottle become too full then it will overflow to the second hose
The second hose should be long enough to pint the hot coolant downward

The ticking noise could be from the lifters or valves
Don't believe it is a cracked head
If it were then every car I had .. has had a cracked head

Thank you avisitor (my son suggested the hose should be attached unsighted) it didn't seem long enough to attach anywhere other than the clip that holds it in place downwards. Sounds good about the head as my daughter is selling the car so hopefully not far from roadworthy when the mechanic returns. Regards Janmor.
